Just a simple question if the same rider was taking multiple bikes around the track how would they stack up. Sticking with the 600cc range or comp (dont compare a 250 to the 1000)
I've been looking online at different places and the opinions vary greatly. Of course the GSXR guys say it's the best ever, the honda guys say they have it.
So for any of you track guys what do you think? What are the pros and cons of the RR on the track and what bikes are simply better>
Most people would say they're all the same, it's just personal preference. I just rode my buddy's R6 today, very much like my own RR more, even though his seat is more comfortable.
Here you're probably going to get an overwhelming: 600rrs are better :P
I guessed I would. I've seen alot of stuff online saying that the GSXR can't corner like the RR and other bikes but it's accelleration in the straights makes it a contender. Not like I'm doing research for a project or anything but with all the "this bike that bike" is better stuff I thought I'd see what the race community had to say.
It seems like whatever comparo I've read throughout the years, the overwhelming consistency about the different models are as follows:
R6: Easy turn in, very flickable.
RR: Most stable in turns, confidence inspiring.
GSXR: Most consistent performer, does everything well, nothing outstanding.
6R: Rocket, plain and simple.
I've only ever ridden a SV650 at the track, so I have nothing else to really contribute, sorry. (and a SM, but that sure as help doesn't count in the context of this convo)

motorcycleusa.com has a good track comparison of the jap 600's with minor mod's like pipe and injector controller. Read 2010 600 supersport modified comparison.
My personal view, after racing against other guys on the track, the Honda is very competitive, only on the long straights do i get pulled slightly by r6 or suz, with my stock engine. And as you read handles great.

I feel that the CBR only lacks in features compared to the other brands. But once you make it into a track bike those mods can be added, which the other brands include from the factory. Aside from the accessories I feel they are close in performance, although the 07+ seems tamed down compared to the other 600's.

like said the cbr is very good at everything but does get pulled by the r6 and the zx6r but its also down to rider and how you get in and out of corners. Personally the zx6r is a weapon they are very quick and just seem to have the edge.

I've heard the new R6s have more power than the others. But if you are just starting out, it won't matter that much. Good exits out of corners make much more of a difference than a little more acceleration.

I agree that rider makes all the difference, which is why I said if the same rider took the bikes around, what comes out on top. Is the difference so marginal that no one would notice?

The '09+ R6 has a nasty top-end compared to the '07 600RRs. The R6 is flickable but feels a little heavier in the turns. Does not hold its line as well as the RRs IMO. The brakes on the R6 initial bite is numb but then dig in. Makes for a great track bike
As for the '07+ 600RRs. Very light on its feet, Drops into turns, holds its line impressively well, brakes very well, great drive out of the corners(midrange pull). Only thing it lacks IMO is top-end(I only find this an issue where tracks have a very long straight).
As mentioned, the GSXRs do everything good but nothing outstanding.

Absolutely personal preference and varies drastically on how "good" the rider is. Consistency plays a HUGE roll in this.
Some bikes mask riders inconsistencies better than others. Some are more compliant. Others are harder to set up for the rider or the riders ability.
I compare bikes based on the set up. If you can't get a bike set up, then it doesn't matter how "good" it was to someone else.
That's where I can't stand what Honda does, and I LOVE my Honda's! But they make dialing in your bike soooo difficult!
The R6 for example allows for some nice easy mods that allow geometry changes to be done VERY easily and fast. Changing geometry on a Honda is ANYTHING but fast.
To have every bike set up perfectly for the rider and ridden equally at the track, well you can read any magazines comparison and look how close they are. You'll notice sometimes less than a second a lap at a race track after 3 days of riding will often separate 3-4 bikes!

Thanks niner, that's exactly what I was looking for.
Bike setup is something I've been curious about for a while, they didn't set it up at the dealer when I purchased it and I've watched some youtube vids but don't understand it. That will be a thread all to itself later when I understand the right questions to ask.

lol you don't want the dealer "setting it up" for you! Don't go to them for anything once you're signed that paper! lol
First thing to do, ASK QUESTIONS!
Second thing to do, TRACK YOUR CHANGES!
:)

Yeah I was in Mississippi, almost year round riding there. Currently in Ohio, bike went up a month ago with one or two days exception. I'm not expecting to ride again until april which is killing me. Using the downtime for some parts though =)
