Theft story with a pretty happy ending
Hey there,
Theft always sucks, and I've experienced that first hand twice so far. My car was stolen last year in June from a train station parking lot, and my bike was stolen last year in August from a parking lot right outside my apartment.
I have two and they were standing side by side, both covered with a tarp. The next day I go outside, the tarp was half removed off one bike, and the CBR gone. But.... One month later I got a call from an officer in the south side of Chicago, an hour from my place. (About the same area my car was found, also a month later!)
Got really lucky. Like my car, my bike wasn't in bad shape. Rode it home that day. Looks like the people put it up in a truck and later took it apart, got a new key made, and put it back together. One mirror and turn signal was bent to no end, and apparently they didn't know how to put it back together right. They scratched the gas tank, missed bolts, and plastic hung out. BUT... I got it back. And I got to use my old keys for it.
Not gonna push my luck anymore with the bikes... Tossed them both in a garage now and I'm definitely going to look into security measures. No one should walk out and see their bikes damaged or missing!
Just wanted to share this story to show that sometimes you can get lucky. Twice. So if your bike does get stolen, there IS a chance you'll get it back. =)
