Crf master cylinder swap

I've been wanting to do this ever since I seen it on here. I just got a 2010 CRF rear master cylinder off of eBay. Don't tell me search I have and that's where I got this idea from. My question is all the threads are about 2 years old, and was wondering if ne one has any new ideas on mounting or tricks to this. I know the bolt holes don't line up, so I was going to weld the bolt holes shut and then drill and tap new ones. (on the master cylinder). Any new ideas or help would be great.

Make a backplate with the new holes on it. Use flush mount screws and bolt it on. My brother did this on his bike.

I thought the holes were only off alittle that's why I thought of welding the old holes on the master and then drill new holes that line up with my stock rear sets. I haven't got the master yet, its on the road to me. If they are too far off that's what I will do. Is any one doing this any more? Just seems odd that all the threads are like 2 yrs old. Thanks tripage! Hate to say it but, the reason I'm doing this because of you in a way. I want the led pegs, but don't want the reservoir. Then I can shave off the the bracket and cover for the reservoir on the pegs. Then I can install the leds in the pegs. So I need this done first. I just got done with the led color change on my gauges. Looks great. So I thank you for all the ideas. I'm one of those I have to DIY type. Lol

I thought that was very nicely done....

The holes almost line up. I just used a drill to elongate the holes on the rearsets. You can't see it once everything is bolted up.

The CRF master cylinder looks nearly identical to the stock master cylinder but has a built in reservoir with sight glass, this eliminates the standard remote reservoir and line.

Well I spent yesterday making a bracket. The bar stock I got wasn't wide enough, so I going to get a wider piece tonight and make it. I want to change the angle and raise it up some from where I'm at now. This is where I'm at now.

Yeah, you should be able to straighten it out with a wider bracket. I didn't make one because I plan on getting aftermarket rearsets soon, so I'll just make one then. It's going to be a bitch to bleed! You should definitely use a vacuum pump.

Made a better bracket tonight and its much better. Straightened it out and brought it up some. I'll get everything all painted up and powder coated back up. I shaved all the crap on the pass pegs and now drill some holes for the led turn signal. I still need to shave off that bracket on the subframe.

I just painted the bolts. I've heard of people having problems with the powder coating being so thick that the Allen wrench didn't fit or they chip it trying to force it. Besides, they charge by the piece!

Well I made a new bracket again. But I got it where I want it now. I'm having one heck of a time trying to bleed it out. I thought you guys were making out just to be a bigger deal than it is. Lol. I got a vacuum bleeder and it seem to keep pulling air that can't be in there, not after this much bleeding. Any tips would be great appreciated. I found black bolts at the hardware store too. Ill keep plugn away at it.

Well after 5 hrs I got all the air out. Still not as much power as the stock one though. (Could be due to the calipers) I pulled out my bleed valves and they had some corrosion on the bottom of them. I think its time to go through calipers and rebuild them. Might as well get the ss lines too. Oh boy can't wait to start all over and rebleed every thing from scratch.

Even got to take it for one last ride tonight as it was only 35 degrees and it about to snow 6 to 10 inches tomorrow. Can't wait for some snow!

Mine was a pain to bleed, too. I actually gave up and just started riding it. I kept pressing the pedal like normal and a day or so later I noticed it was working! I also prefer the slightly decreased stopping power, it keeps the rear from locking up so easily during hard/emergency braking. It will still lock up, just not as quick.

If you decide to rebuild your calipers I have a full oem seal rebuilt kit sitting in my garage. Pm me if your interested.

Bwalton, did you powder coat or paint the master cylinder? If powder coat, did you remove the sight window? I haven't found anything on if it is removable in order to bake the part after powder coat.

I was working on an actual crf 450 race bike today. Probably one of the easiest rear brakes I've ever bleed. It is a good master cylinder though.

Sorry guys I've been hiding out all winter and now that sun is back so am I. Hope everyone has been good and stayn safe. I used grill paint matches good. And my baby is up for sale now. Maybe if I get some time ill get some pics and get it posted here!
