Quickshifter & Ignition Module Install

Hey All,

I bought a QS and IG from a friend and I am having trouble figuring out where the IG module plugs into. He's looking for the instructions but I thought I'd check here in the meantime. The IG has two plugs, red and black. I found where the red plugs into but I see nothing for the black. Dynojet has no installation instructions on their website, anyone have any pictures? :)

Tks!

I race CCS FL (roadracing), just trying to shave off that last few secs. In roadracing we don't clutch on upshifts anyway but with the QS and IG, you don't have to let off the gas either.

Found the plug for the ignition module but I want to make sure I have the shifter installed properly. Is anyone running QS with Vortex rearsets?

Forget the quick shift. My buddy has melted 2 clutches on his gsxr 1000. something about not fully engaging the clutch or something. Just clutchless shift, its like butter on these bikes.

There should be a red plug coming from the crank end of the clutch cover. It sits on top of the gearbox just behind the starter motor. Plug the ignition module inline here.
You then need to plug the ignition module into the powercommander using the battery plug socket on it. The the quickshiter plugs into the spare plug hanging from the ignition module.
The ignition module will not just plug in and work with the powercommander though. You must do a firmware update and this must be done with the battery adaptor and a battery connected and not with the engine running. If done wrong it can fry the powercommander so take care.
Also the quickshifter needs enabling too before it will work. It comes with a disc.

If you get stuck, drop me a mail and i can forward you all the software.

Thanks.
Working on it as i type actually.
Its a bit of a headache which i could do without as i'm flat out building engines. Got 6 600rr motors, plus a dozen heads and loads of other motors that all have to be done by end of next month!! Oh well. Anybody want to come and help?

Damn, that's good to know. I just got the PCIII, Ignition Module and quick shifter from a buddy. I hope he has already updated the firmware and everything. The '05 ignition module has FI connections just like the PCIII; Does the IM connect to the upper injectors?

It connects to the ignition coil stick plugs. Top injectors have no secondary connection unless you run the powercommander on top or run 2 powercommanders.

what is the function of the ignition module? is is required for the quickshifter?
It allows you to adjust the ignition advance/retard over the whole load site to +/- 10 degrees. Doesn't really add any power though in my experience, just makes mid and low end pickup sharper.
It is not required for quickshifter in race setup but best on a road bike where you want it to shift at lower revs. If you have the ignition module the quickshifter cuts the spark instead of half the fuel system, so you get a much sharper and cleaner shift.

The 4 labelled 'what about these' go onto the coil sticks. These can be found in the cam cover. These coil sticks go onto the end of the spark plugs.
The red plug connects inline with the wire coming out of the front top side of the clutch cover. It also has a red plug on it which is usually sat just under the fuel tank on the right hand side of the bike.

Does anyone know if anyone has tried clutchless downshifting... of course the gas throttle has to be off... the principle works the same as I can imagine to the setup by flatshifter.com

well, flatshifter claims that you can do clutchless downshifting with throttle off with no wheel lock.. might be very good for tracks with long wide off apex turns..
Paul: so you're saying that the quickshifter from dynojet can only do clutchless up shifting?

hmmm... I wonder if anyone has tried flatshifters at flatshifters.com They seem to have a formula 1 style shifting... sequential clutchless up and down shifting.. looks promising
