heres a quick easy way to fix those ugly rashed up case covers. ive had 2 salvaged bikes im repairing with all the covers rashed and one passenger peg.
i was planning on getting powdercoating done anyways so this worked great.theres not much to it. all i use is a palm sander with some 80 grit sand paper. remove the covers of coarse. this only took me about 5 to 10 minutes per bike to fix. and you don't even have to powdercoat. you can use high heat paint and take things into your own hands. so with the paint and sandpaper about a 10$ 1/2 day fix. and the finished product will be worth it. heres some pics. hope this helps someone. good luck

nono guys. these parts are powdercoated a texturized black. but ive seen on the how to remove covers a guy painted his with high heat black paint and it looked just as good and he didnt even remove the covers. so i just sanded smooth and then i sandblasted the hole thing and then i took it to powdercoat

I did the same thing with my old honda. I polished them instead of powdercoat/paint though.

just check out my pics. used a palm sander.(like the 4th pic down) and it only took like 5 to 10 minutes with just 80 grit(no hand sanding). very easy, quick and cheap. dunno about the paint prep. check out the link i posted above. i would prime and then paint all with high heat but keep in mind i never did mine so double check

just got my second bike done. i got the swing arm, engine covers and all the pegs done for 150. not sure about sanding through the covers. im sure it can be done. if i had a really deep gash i probably wouldnt go the whole way. its a judgement call. feel the thickness and youl have a rough idea.
