Whats up 600rr.net,

After not having my bike for almost 5 months (see my last post about Fuel pump problems and Honda Powersports of Orange) I finally got her back last week only to find new problems.

Little background info:

-'03 honda cbr600rr
-26,xxx miles on her
-last engine service was done at 24,xxx and was the "big" one where they check vavles etc.
-bought used about 2 years ago with 17,xxx miles on her

Bike was delivered to me from Socal to Paso Robles where I have a yearly weekend ride with other riders and upon immediate inspection i noticed broken plastics and other damage from the shop.

After some ranting and raving and a well deserved wash and shine, i filled her up and checked fluids (all full) and i took her on her first ride in months.

It was warm out (87 degrees) and i noticed the temp was up at 209-230 all day long no matter if in stop and go traffic or doing 70 in 6th gear. Because it was hot i didnt pay too much attention to it but when i drove back to Monterey at 10pm at night (61 degrees F) she was still at 210 all the way home.

The next day after i got home i walked out and noticed coolant pooling under the front of the engine.

Bike will hit 220*F and fan will kick on, but will climb up to 230 and stay there.

Looking around this forum I'm thinking it may be a bad radiator cap. But could it be anything else? Bad water pump? Thermostat? Or somethig more serious? Head?

Thanks in advanced... Seem to be having quite a bad year with my girl and i appreciate the help so i can get her back running strong again.

Max hp is supposed to come when the bike is at 187 so im never at my best

Please help!

Yes it did, they were terrible service ( had my bike for 4 months for a bad ignition switch they told me it was ECM and they broke my front fender) and it leaked about 1 cup of coolant

do you have a dirty radiator? And you took it to a licensed dealer and they didnt replace the broken fender? I havn't had any bike coolant problems. But i do know i just replaced a thermostat and did coolant flush on our big rig tractor because no matter what it would overheat. It would go down a hair into the wind but ended up having to change the water pump out and was good as new.

If it's hot where you are and it's maintaining 230 then you have nothing to worry about, and likely nothing actually wrong.

As for the pool of coolant, when they filled they system they probably filled the overflow bottle all the way up, once the bike heats the excess will end up on the ground. This is how I do mine every time, with every bike / car / truck I have ever dealt with. Better to put to much in and have it pump a little onto the ground than to little and have it suck air back into the radiator.
