i just checked out the only place around me to get a custome map and they told me the above price to get mapped. i was like thats not to bad. then the guy was like if you want me to go in to each cyclinder individually that will cost you $350 and take an entire day. he said that i would have to top in to each header pipe so that he could do it right. my question is what am i getting for the first price that he quated me. second question is does the second price sound about right and what do i need to tapp the headers with.
i know what he means but i dont know exactly what to use or how to do it. any info would be great.

bout 2 hours and some, I'm going to school over at BV in storm lake right now but my hometown is straight north, i have a buddy who works at zooks, and he was going to see if he could get one of the mechanics to put my bike on the dyno there to get a baseline. because it turns out like 2 of the mechanics at zooks ride rockets and not harleys haha, thought that was funny.

Generally you'll be sweet by just getting the map done with the 02 sensor down the pipe and they make a map covering all 4 cylinders as a whole (average). The air/fuel reading given is a total of all 4 together, obviously. So, what that means is, the no:1 cyl may be a fraction lean, no.2 a little rich, no.3 and 4 spot on, but all together, as a whole, they are right. But they CAN put a bung in each header pipe and make a map for each individual cylinder so that each sylinder on it's own is spot on. Usually the difference isn't that great between the 4 cyl's, but it can be and is Prolly not gonna warrant doing unless you're racing it or you want every last inch of performance from your bike. Dunno about pricing, I'm in Oz, but I charge $250-300 for the over all map in Oz $'s. Hope this helps.

Didnt you say something in a different post about the cats giving a false reading of some sort? like as in if your running your stock header...or am i just dreaming of stuff?

No, the that is correct, the Cat will give lean readings coz of what it is there to do. Bunging the header pipes is done before the Cat and so won't affect the mapping as the sensor is screwed in to those bungs in the header pipes. If they're doing the usual way and mapping all 4 together, then yep, they should either gut the Cat or bung the pipe infront of the Cat and take the reading from there as again it won't affect the readings that way.

thanks birdman. what do i need to bung the pipe before the headers and how hard is it. i would think that it is pretty easy.

yea i was wondering about that...if you put a hole in your pipe, then how do you fill it back in again? or could u put 2 bungs underneath right before the cats so you could just run 2? or would it just be easy to gut out the cats?

Hahahaha nah it ain't easy. I wouldn't attempt it. Get a pro to do it. It involves hole'ing your pipe and putting a thread into it as well, that a "bung" can screw into, and so "fill it back in". Take a look at some full systems, or actually, hang on a sec, I'll see if I can post a pic..................nup, can't post it, but click the link, this is what I'm talkin about.

if i where going to cut the cat out i would remove the exhuast and use a sawaza and cut in front of and behind the cat then weld a piece in its place

that almost seems like the best way, but it would be a pain in the ass to pull those headers off..... unless ya just get a race header from somewhere.
