2004 rear brake recall?
Hi~
I am new to riding and just bought a used 2004 cbr600rr about two months ago. I did notice my rear brakes were weak, so i bled them. I still think they are a bit soft so I was reading up on cbr brakes when i stumbled upon this:
I read this on nhtsa website:

has anyone gone had their rear brakes replaced? if so, what needs to be done? thanks for your info~

the recall replaces a mounting bolt/bolts I think, nothing to affect the actual performance of the bike.

Correct. I have a 2003 and I had it done. I didn't think it was an issue with the 2004. It wasn't even a serious issue. it affected the 2004 too-I had mine done. I think it wasnt even "failure" so much as corrosion of the bolts or something inane like that.
so did you just go to the dealer and tell them to replace it?
The rear brakes are naturally weak/ and or sensitive. They barely give any stopping power and from what I noticed they barely did anything or were they would lock up.
Also I remember the recall was for all bikes except the 06 because my bike (05) had to go in but I totaled it the week before the recall was called. Oh well.

The rear brake is only for bringin down wheelies anyways 
all owners got a letter about it. I dont remember needing to bring the letter. the dealer should be able to look up the VIN and see if its been done. If it hasnt they'll do it.tigerboy211 said:so did you just go to the dealer and tell them to replace it?

Yes. There was a wrong choice of material in the rear brake linkages. Resulting in corrosion, the brake could sieze up or in extreme cold break. So was re-callled for a change in material. Both 2004 and 2003 models were affected.
I was contacted by Honda Australia, to present my bike to the dealer for a replacement of the defective part at no cost. By way of a letter as most would have, rang the dealer up and booked in to have this part replaced. No problem.
It was under warranty.
It seemed better, and smoother with the original linkage. Not that I use my rear brake for anything other than slowing me down in my gravel driveway. Didn't seem much of a problem in the first place to me...
I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has had a problem with the original linkage however!
Also heard a woman saying theres a problem with the suspension linkages, her son a racer died as a result of a suspension linkage breaking... was going to be heard in a magistrates court... Havent heard anything since seeing it on the news. I amagine the suspension setting would be as firm as she would go for a stock bike suspension set up for racing...maybe, maybe not. But that's racing I suppose.
