Just read this , another one is out this time for a faulty oil delivery pipe O- ring this is now the 3rd one for Yamaha :( good news is it seems only 146 R1's are effected?

Yamaha R1 recall

YAMAHA is recalling R1s and R1Ms over a possible risk of fire due to a faulty oil delivery pipe O-ring that could cause oil to leak on to the exhaust.

A recall notice on the website of the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency says: ‘It is possible for an oil leak to occur, from the O-Ring on the Oil Delivery Pipe where it enters the engine case, because of improper assembly of the components. If a leak occurs, oil could leak onto the exhaust and in extreme circumstances the oil could catch fire.’

A total of 146 affected bikes are to have the oil delivery pipe O-ring replaced.

Looks like this is limited to UK R1/M's only : "Not only the gearbox issue, but Yamaha is facing other problems as well with its YZF-R1 and YZF-R1M models in the UK. The company has issued another recall for these two motorcycles due to faulty oil delivery pipe O-ring which can lead to oil leak on the exhaust. This problem in the motorcycle can cause a possible risk of fire."

A new recall affects the 2015 model year Yamaha YZF-R1 and YZF-R1M, with the bad news arriving from the UK this time. No less than 146 bikes from the two series mentioned are expected to pay a visit to the Yamaha dealers to receive a fix that should prevent a potential vehicle fire.

The Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), formerly known to British motorists as the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) presented a letter of recall that informs the customers about a potentially dangerous defect on both the R1 and R1M motorcycles.

"It is possible for an oil leak to occur, from the O-Ring on the Oil Delivery Pipe where it enters the engine case, because of improper assembly of the components. If a leak occurs, oil could leak onto the exhaust and in extreme circumstances, the oil could catch fire," the DVSA reports, according to visordown.

One more recall adding to the defective transmissions of the entire 2015 lot doesn't make things easier

No info as to whether any vehicle fire occurred was mentioned, but it is likely that such news would have made the front page. Still, adding one more defect to the already tensioned situation is not going to make R1 and R1M customers any happier.

The entire 2015 model year production has to be brought in and have its transmission replaced after Yamaha discovered that the second gear sprocket could break under high stress, posing a high crash risk and affecting the entire transmission.

Yamaha will replace the O-ring of the mentioned oil pipe free of charge. We are now wondering if this is the end of the R1 and R1M recalls for the debut model year of the new Yamaha superbike and how the entire story will affect the sales for the 2016 model year. By the way, we expect that Yamaha is working hard to fix everything for the upcoming bikes, lest they see unit sale figures going down. Still, Yamaha is not the only manufacturer confronting recalls in the first year of an all-new model. It's the fact that the R1 and R1M are advertised as being the pinnacle of Iwata's efforts that makes things look funny, in a way...

Well, I suppose things could be worse. At least, the company is being proactive in recognizing and making a legitimate effort in correcting.

I wonder how they're finding out about these issues or if current owners are reporting to bring attention to each matter?

agree, Yamaha is making it right the best way they can. What i'm wondering is how will these recalls effect the 2016 sales...

Probably going to have a significant impact on sales. I've read a lot of people saying they were holding off until '17 and wanting to see how the '16 model unfolds over its mode year.

I usually prefer to wait two model years (or longer) after a new release... Thankfully, I won't be in the market for a liter bike anytime soon. I understand that this is easier said on my part while witnessing select owners fall into a beta tester position.
