Hi, I have a 2005 CBR 600rr it's currently at 9900 kms (Yes kms, not miles). My bike needed a jump yesterday after a couple hours of riding, not even being parked over night? Wondering if this is a common or known issue with Honda CBR's? For a bike that is 3 years old?

After a couple hours of riding yesterday I stopped at a friend's house for 20 mins or so. After I got out, tried starting the bike but it wouldn't? Luckily we had cables and I was able to jump it.

Rode home (35 mins away on the highway), tested the battery by turning off the bike and starting it up a couple of times with no issues. This morning I tried starting up the bike again, it worked...

Wondering if CBR batteries only have a lifetime of 3 years or so? Also if this is the case for all bikes, etc...

Since I bought it (1 year old) I've either ridden the bike every week or have trickle charged the battery monthly.

Your help is appreciated.

29k miles on my 04. Drained it completely once cus i left my HID's on, never trickle charged it and has never let me down

depending on how the battery was treated before you took ownership, 3 years at the abuse end, 10 years to the Appreciated end. you shouldn't be starting the engine and stopping it soon there after though. that's not good for any battery and any vehicle.

hell, the battery in the F2 lasted over a decade.

Hi thanks for your reply. I don't think I have been too hard on the battery. Ride at least once a week (more like 3 times per week)in the spring, summer months and trickle charge the battery in the fall winter months. Don't have aftermarket headlights (HID's) or anything like that so don't think it's the battery?

Could it be the reg rectifier? Anyhow I will be getting my batt checked just in case.

Any other ideas or opinions? Thanks in advance.

I was just in the honda dealership this weekend asking them to test my battery. Same thing happened to me. Bike wouldnt start coz i left it in the "on" position with headlights on for 5 min. w/o starting it... I ran down my street with it in neutral and jumped on and popped it into 2nd and it started. I told the service mechanic what happened so he agreed to test my battery. Everything checked out fine. He said it charged up, and tested perfectly... He said the stock battery if treated right will last over 5 years. If not treated perfectly, 3 years is about average.

Unlikely on your bike, but it's a simple test so it probably wont hurt.

Hi there. Just checked the battery, no issues there. Charging and not losing any power, etc...

Also, I spoke to my friend. When he borrowed my bike a few months (6 or so) ago apparently the same thing happened. It has since started up and I've ridden it 3 times for 1 or 2 hours. Doesn't seem to be a problem now however I don't want to be stuck on a long trip with this issue, lastly since I've learned that this is not the first time with my bike I presume this will be an ongoing issue until it's fixed.

Please provide suggestions. Thank-you guys!

I put on 12k miles on my 06' and finally had to replace the battery. It was just draining under load. Now I have a battery tender and I can hopefully extend the life of the battery with it.

i suggest charging it overnight and bringing it to a test facility (autozone, car quest, napa, advance auto, pep boys...) and make sure it's delivering a good amperage. should be 190CCA or there abouts.
