Hello folks,

I just Got this new baby 2003 600rr 7 days ago with 25 000km on it and Sunday I went out with a bunch of ppl to Mont-Tremblant (on curvy roads) and beat it a little bit without abusing or over revving.
Everything was fine!
Few Hours later after coming back home more than 200km, I went out again with the bike and after another 100km while doing over 100kph on the highway the engine started doing this noise (view YouTube link)and got louder so I took a towing and brought it back home. Total Km I put on the bike? less than 600km.

I checked the oil level and it's OK.
I read a bit on this forum and it seems to be cct (cam chain tensioner)
I removed it but it doesn't seem to be it (visually it looks fine) and the noise is coming from the top of the engine.
Yesterday, a mechanic told me its the engine that needs to be changed...:sad3:

Dont start it before fixing, the more the engine runs, the more it gets ruinned.
It seems like a valve is hitting a piston, but only checking can confirm it.
Was the tensioner touched before? If it was too loose the chain could have jumped and the engine gets out of its points.
Get another mechanic or a friend who knows about engines to have a look at the distribution chain and points.

now that you have dont that, you are going to have to teardown and inspect timing and valvetrain, or replace the engine, that sounds like valves hitting the pistons caused by a jump in timing. keeps us posted.

that thing is fkd, it could be any of these, the engine spun a rod bearing & now the piston is hitting the cylinder head, the cam chain went loose & the cam timing got out of sync & now the valves are hitting the piston.

i would check the camshaft timing first to see if the marks are aligned with the crankshaft timing mark, if that is good then your next problem is the rod bearing, try draining the oil & see if its got any metal shavings, if it has then your engine is truly fkd & will need a full rebuild.

i now use an APE manual cam chain tensioner to prevent the chain going loose, just do regular checks & adjust the tension if the cam chain becomes noisy, i adjust mine little by little until i hear no more ticking.
