As a point of reference, my friend sold his black RR, absolutely pristine condition with under 2k miles, with solo cowl and new tires, for $7200 in the Bay Area. The dead of winter (especially as wet as it has been) is not the time to expect a premium price for your bike. And the 04 models with new colors are right around the corner.

Helmets and jackets are very personal items (due to sizing, color / style preferences, etc.) that might be best sold individually.

Hey Quasi.

I may have been on a receiving end of your friend's deal. :)
Just thought i jump in and say hello as brand new RR rider (well not really my previous bike was 954RR :))

Yeah 8k is a tough sell because i was able to find dealer willing to sell for $8399 OTD.

You may want to put an ad out at http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/

Cheers

PS Quasi - are you the person with the PC3 that Devin mentioned?

Small world! Yes, Devin is the friend I was referring to. Let me tell you, you got a good deal on a great bike. Devin is the most anal-retentive person I know when it comes to bikes, and he has kept that thing immaculate. Did you know that was supposed to be my bike?! About 4 months ago he was going to sell it to me for the same price (but without the new tires), but backed out at the last minute! It's cool, I ended up getting a great deal on a new red one from a dealer (about 8300 OTD).

No, I'm not the person with the PC3. It's on my list of future mods though.

Thanks guys.... I've got a long list of mods to do on my RR - PC3, Scotts, Fender eliminator, Double Bubble - it's my pet project at the moment.

I also got the '99 R6 that i bought a week before i saw Devin's offer that i could not pass up. :banban:

So i ended up with 2 bikes and now i am having hard time getting rid of my Yamaha (it rides well too).

You know the funny part? After selling the RR Devin ended up getting '04 R6
Go figure... :lol2:

Yeah, I know...the funny thing is Devin is not much different from me...I thought about selling the RR, but once you buy brand new, you lose way too much in depreciation. It is so much more economical, at least for folks like us, to buy something used! There are some great prices out there right now on used bikes...especially since mine is for the track only! With that said, Devin and I were talking about how much smarter it is to get a used one because we might just turn around and sell...he goes and gets a brand new 2004! Oh well, I guess that's the fun of it all!!

PS...Before my RR, I had a track only 2000 R6 and as of right now, I really liked the R6 much better at the track. I am hoping that will change in 2004!

Really? Your 2000 R6 is probably pretty close in handling to my '99
Why do you think it's a better track tool than the RR?

I have a trackday coming on Feb 12 (one of many this year) at sears and i was planning to take the RR.

Just wondering what are Pros and Cons of R6 vs the RR in your opinion.
Both on the street and the track. :D

Feel free to PM or post here.

Thanks!

Just re-read your post. I realized you meant that you like the R6 better at the track (than on the street).

You havent tried the RR on the track yet, correct?

I've ridden the RR only once so far, but judging by the weight distribution, riding position and steering responsivness it should be a lot of fun, especially at the track).
The R6 (in comparsion) has somewhat quicker steering, but twitchier and has more conventional weight d/b, suspension and riding position.
I like to ride it on the street just because it's so easy to jump on and ride fast (relatively speaking :lol2:).

Would be interested to hear your comparo.

Probably C because it's my first time out with this bike. May switch to B later if all goes well. What about yourself?

Alex,

Actually I brought the RR to the track twice last year, so as you could imagine I have to still get use to it. I was about 8 seconds off my fastest pace of my R6, but two things come into play. I was just coming off a pretty bad highside when I switched from my R6 to the RR (so my confidence level was a little shot, and, I just wasn't comfortable on the RR. What I mean about that is, the R6 always made me feel like I was "in the bike". The RR, I feel like I am "on top" of the bike. Also, I had revalved and resprung front forks and an Ohlins rear on the R6, whereas the RR has stock suspension. I am hoping to change that before my first track day. Sounds like you are getting out there early. My first trackday (first of many as well) is scheduled for March at Laguna. I am sure I'll see you at a lot of trackdays this year!

Yeah the riding position on the RR is a little unconventional (almost feels like you are straddling the front wheel). My '54 was a bit like that but the 600RR takes it to a whole new level. I think it will grow on you as you get more saddle time on that bike.

What about power & steering differences. When riding on the street it feels liek my R6 is slightly more powerful, but i suspect it's an illusion because the powerband on the RR is very linear where on the R6 you feel it pullign quite a bit at certain RPMs.

Btw I am planning to be at Laguna on March 26 as well, hopefully.

I did Infineon on Dec 16th in C group because it was my first time there, and will likely start out in C group this next time around. Although I'm a B rider, I discovered that I had a lot of fun in C because (1) hey it's fun to pass a lot of people :p (although you can't do it in corners, and you do have to deal with "clumping" up of slower C-riders every now and then), and (2) in the afternoon I would venture out into the B group mid-session, ride for 10-15 minutes, come back to the pits when the session was over, and go out again with C-group with tires pretty much warmed up! This was a great way to maximize my track time. I'm not sure if they would have allowed the reverse (being originally assigned to B but riding in C sessions).

Oops. My apologies to the thread starter for hijacking this thread.
