600RRonthe94's engine rebuild

Hey I have some questions about your engine rebuild. I'm in the process of doing that right now. Long story short I was coming home just changed the oil maybe 50 miles into it I lose power and this loud knocking sound from the motor appeared. I've dug thru the archives and some say crank bearings. I've got the head off no problem nothing wrong there same with valves and nothing in the top half. But when I dropped the oil pan this is what came out.

How can I find out if i can reuse the casing or get a new one?

1. To infer from the metal powder in the oil pan, Your knocking sound may be the noise caused by the journal bearing being worn and rotating with the crankshaft.
Do not run the engine.
crankshaft and the engine block will wear out.

2. unfortuntly there is no brand new case from honda. It was discontinued. You have to buy something in good condition on the website.

Only way to know for sure is to take it all apart and measure everything. Your crank and rods may be toast. Remove pistons and examine cylinder bores.

Luckily re-sleeving alloy block with Alusil liners is common nowadays. Then re-plate with Nikasil. Most specialty places can do this for about $2k.

Ok once it started knocking I killed it and walked her up hill and coasted down to a friend's house and trucked her back home. This is the first time taking a part a bike motor and so far so good for being on the rez. Can I replace the bearings if there isn't to much damage?
Just got done with the paint and fairings. But I'm not giving her up. I have some machinist friends that might be able to help me. Thank you for the info much appreciated. I'll send up more pic's.

Is there any way I can rehab the crank or do I need to buy another or I just heard about metal spraying?

i recommend change your crankshaft.
Yes just bought a new one on line with new bearings for crank and connecting rods. plus gasket set for what is need and then some. I just repainted the frame and about to do the fairings. Cleaned every surface and part. Next is the front fork seals and dust covers. And beefed up the suspension also. So it should be the same as when I first bought it.
I got lucky with the piston walls Im thinking. Thank you guys for very thing and the past knowledge shared! I'll keep you guys posted on how I works out
ok so when it rains it pours right? so i download the torq spec's and wouldnt you know it the second one snaps on me and it starts to rain a little bit. i mean come on right. but not give up just one more thing to do. nothing but time to get her right i figure. whats a few more days.
