Adjustable Clip-ons For 04?

1773 Views 14 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  dannoxyz
Hey all,
I’m looking for some adjustable clip ons for my 04. I’m looking to raise the riding position a bit so the bike will be a bit more comfortable on longer rides. I am eyeballing apex manufacturing’s 3” adjustable clip ons. Has aonyone used these or can recommend another brand? I’ve looked for HeliBars because those come up the most in my searches, but the company as stopped selling them. Thanks in advance guys
Here’s the bars I’m currently looking at: Apex 3" Riser Clip-on Set with 7/8" Bar

When I was doing gymkhana like 15-yrs ago, I liked to use superbike 1-piece bars. Once you get handlebar clamp on top of upper fork-clamp (like off-road bike), you can pick from unlimited selection of 7/8"/22.2mm bars (even ape-hanger bars!). Lighter and stiffer than clip-ons.

Depends upon how much of rise you want. You can angle clip-ons backwards more to clear fairings & windscreen. But risk smashing your thumbs on tank, depending upon how far back you angle them. There's also issue of needing longer clutch cable, throttle cables and brake-hoses as well.

ST1300P police bike had 1" taller bars than regular ST1300 and required slightly different fairings and windshield to clear bars.

Here's complete kit for VFR800 similar to factory-parts used for police-bike version. But you'll have to chop your fairings/windshield afterwards, depending upon where they touch. "Windshield cut required"

Mine was 2005 version, but similarly set up. Slightly lowered front-end with stiffer springs using less compression and higher rebound damping compared to stock. About 2,0" rise on bars compared to stock.

Top end? Like top-speed?

I only got it up to actual 150mph down front straight at Willow Springs. Perfectly stable, no problems at all. Some people report needing steering-damper to tame head-shake going over turn-1 @ Laguna. I suspect my lower tapered roller-bearings in steering stem helped make it stable. Did swap out higher bars back to clips-ons for track. Not very comfortable having hands up by my ears when tucking for straights!

Yeah, looks more like 20-25mm drop. Steepens head-angle by about 1-degree for quicker steering-response.
