Speed cited as factor in motorcyle accident
HANNA CITY - Speed likely played a role in a fatal motorcycle accident early Wednesday, an official said.
Bo Waddell, 22, 2709 NE Madison Ave., Peoria, was traveling east in the 9300 block of Smithville Road just past Riekena Road about 3:45 a.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve, Peoria County Sheriff's Capt. Dave Briggs said.
"He was going too fast and missed the curve," said Briggs, adding Waddell and the Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle he was operating slid sideways into a grassy ditch.
The two traveled approximately 260 feet before Waddell was thrown off. The motorcycle continued another 20 to 30 feet in the ditch before coming to a stop.
Waddell, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at 4:22 a.m. at the scene.
Shortly before the accident, Waddell had been visiting his brother who lives in Hanna City, Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll said. Three miles separate Waddell's brother's house and the location of the crash.
Early in the investigation, authorities were told Waddell may have struck a deer, but evidence at the scene didn't show that. The Sheriff's Department and Coroner's Office continue to investigate the accident. Toxicology testing has been ordered, but can take several weeks before results are available.
