I noticed my 05 600rr has 180s on the rear and Ive heard bad things about puiting a larger tire without a rim change.I really want to run 190s..is this true?

the 190/55R17 should fit but having such a tire is not going to be beneficial in any way shape or form and will give you less contact patch with the pavement
but its your bike so do what ever you want
Proper tire sizes are dependant on the rim size. Stick with the right (stock) sized tires for your bike.

You ain't gonna be any cooler or corner any faster with an incorrect oversized tire.
I bought my first bike used which is a 03 ZX6 R and it came with 190 rear tire in Dunlop D208 (shitty tires) .I never realized that my ZX6R was supposed to have 180 tires just like my new 600RR. My honda definatly is more stable on roads and doesnt whip around as much on messed up streets. Now Im starting to think that the Kawi has just as much potential in stability if I go back to the stock 180s.Then again it could just be the bike itself ...Paul
go back to the 180/55R17 the bike will be more stable
it'll affect the handling alittle going into corners, but if you want to put one on your bike it is your bike.
Wouldn't the manufactures have put a 190 on there for you if it would make the bike better? Yes... So that is why we have 180's.
man im pissed off ....Just rode my friends ZX6R and the bike is much more stable...He rode mine and he told me it rides like ****....I think im gonna knife this 190 up.
why would you go with a 190 when ppl with 190' are getting 180's?????

rims can fit a variety of sizes as long as they are within the limits of the rim.

stock is not always right either, ppl who have stock 190 sometimes upgrade to 180's.

You bought a 190 after other riders are telling you to stick with the 180?
No....I bought my 2003 ZX6R used with 4000 miles on it and it came with 190 dunlop d208s.I thought it was the stock size and apparently it should have been 180 series but the previous owner slapped on 190s. I always thought my ZX6R handled crappier then my 600RR but Im thinking it could be the tires now.
ypu might look cooler with bigger rubbers, but it wont do you much good
i have a 190/60 :) if you switch from a 180/55 to a 190/60 you MUST adjust your geometry to make it work right. Just changing the tire will have ill effects, but properly set up the bike is much better coming out of the corners with the 190/60

BigTuna,
what were the basic changes you did after going up in tire? Did you have to lower the back-end to get it back to what it was before?
i dont wanna start another thread for people just to say do a search so im just gonna ask my question here were people will read my post :) I stunt my rr i know im a squid yeah yeah ;) but i came into a free 190 from a friend thats like brand new im into trying slow wheelies and alot of slow controled stuff. i know it might effect trying to turn in slow wheelies but is the tire gonna be that odly shaped at like 15 lbs of air in it or will in turn really give me a flater ride spot at that air? will it have clearence issues at that low of air? i dont know how many of you will know this running that low of air so what ever you guys can do to put your 2 cents in ill take :)
the 190 will look cool(to some)..but thats about it..but definitely less of a performer
