AStars SMX 5 or SMX Plus? Vented or Not?

I was at the dealer trying on boots this weekend and made the mistake of trying on the SMX Plus and it is sooo damn comfy! They did not have the SMX 5 so I wanted to know how it compares and if its the same (sizing)? Still torn on which one I am going to go with. Also, which would you go with, the standard boot or the vented version? Is there enough ventilation in the normal boot? Thanks for your input.

I'm not speaking from personal experience but.. The SMX Plus is a big step up in protection on the SMX 5. About the vents I think it depends how much rain you see yourself riding in.
Definitely the plus's if you have the extra money - no doubt!

I would go with the vented too.

I have the vented plus's and I wear them in 38'f and my feet font get cold, but you can feel the extra ventilation in the summer.

A big plus one here
I have new version of SMX +, the boots have solid protection and they don't feel like a pair of boots, but sneakers. I can shift freely and comfortably. Get SMX+. :D
I went through the same debate, I eventually went with the vented. Now that I have the vented I don't know how I could handle the non-vented!! I still sweat a ton, even with the vented smx plus. I would definitely go vented.
I'm about to buy one, was tempted to go one from STG but would like to try one on in Australia to be sure of size. Anyone wear US9 Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 and have the 2010/11 s-mx plus's?

:+1: i just got these exact ones. i love them! very comfortable, but you feel safe in them!
ah jeeze you guys, always convincing me to spend more money lol. I can get the non vented for $260 shipped or the vented for $314 shipped. I know in my heart I wanted the vented ones but I was hoping you would all say the vented was unnecessary lol.

Yup, definitely go with Jason. I got my boots from him. Don't forget to ask him to get proper size. SMX+ is a size bigger than marked.

yeah, i got 12's. i usually wear 13 shoes
So guys will vented SMX+ be ok for year-round riding in SoCal, even in the winter? I ordered non-vented and I'm kinda regretting it. I ride with CoolMax socks which are supposed to keep things cool...
To answer OP's question and also this one: ALWAYS go with vented boots. They will never be too cold for you to wear, and the ventilation will be a blessing if you ever wear them daily.

Even with Vertigo Air boots my feet get a little damp, regardless of what kind of socks I wear.

I have the Sidi Vertigo Air boots and I use them year-long, even in light rain.
