How long did you ride 250 before wanting an upgrade?

Every time I get onto the MO app, it makes me click on 600rr.net among the other networks...and I always see the 250r network and wonder, "what's the average length of a membership to 250r.net before upgrading??"

Did you have a 250? How long did you ride it before twisting the throttle so hard that your grips spun?? 6 months? A year? 2 or more??

Its all relative from one person to the next. IMO its a great bike for anyone, new to riding or someone who's been riding for years. They are really fun to ride.

I agreed, it's a fun bike to ride. I think by 5 or 6 month, I was tapped out on my 09 Ninja 250R and needed something bigger to keep up with other people I ride with. It can easily get up to 80 mph but after that it's accelerate very slowly to 100. With a 600, just a twist and you're at 100 just like that. But I do miss my 250R. Have y'all seen the 2013 Ninja 250, it's a mini ZX-10! And it's fuel injected!

2 weeks for me. I couldn't pass up the offer on my current bike.

I wish I could afford to have them both, because that 250 was a lot of fun!

Don't disagree that it's fun...I've personally never owned one. Just judging from what I've seen amongst friends, they're fun but pmostly a stepping stone for learners.

I loved my 06 ninja 250. It was my first bike and was VERY forgiving to my beginner mistakes. The mileage was awesome (70mpg-ish) and when you let it out, it still had more pull than any average car on the road. Would have kept it longer if it didn't get totaled when another driver cut infront of me. That money however, went into my CBR

This I wouldnt mind hoping on one now. Not that I would give up my RR for it LOL

I was actually thinking about picking up a 250r for a daily rider/street option as my 600rr is track only. Looks like a fun little bike with plenty for responsible road riding & great fuel economy.

If I did get one, I defintely would try to get one used. I figure there are plenty of people who get the 250 for a beginner bike & then trade/upgrade to the 600rr in a year or two.

Only problem with that is they hold their value for that very reason.

Sometimes i still wish i had mine, however, I couldnt stand that it was carbureted. It wasnt really a big deal, but i simply dont like to bother with a choke in the mornings. Id love to own one again especially since the new one is fuel injected, but im steering a bit more into a drz400 than anything else. Where i live, a dual sport can be a lot of fun.

Since looks are subjective, technically you only sacrifice speed for a bike thats cheaper, easier to maintain, lower insurance, better mpg, and more comfortable.

Meh.... I've put over 20K on my 600RR and about 2k on a 250R. Regarless of the bike I have a blast on it. I will also add, it's great to see the people's reaction when they see a two fiddy keeping up with them in the twisties two up why they are on a much more powerful supersport. The best thing about riding the 250 is you get great mileage and never have to hit the brakes. :crackup:

Just a bit of background on my skill level. I do 4-6 trackdays a year and ride mid-pack intermediate so I am by no means 'fast'. This is my 4th year of owning a bike.

I have a 2010 ninja 250r as well. Even though it is not powerfull as the cbr, it is still pretty fun.

If you are a true rider and you love riding then you will not care what you ride.

I totaled my 600 a few weeks ago. I used it as a daily rider going back and forth from school/work so I was kind of at a loss for getting around. Had the opportunity to pick up a 250r at an unbeatable price so I grabbed it. In all honesty its a fantastic bike, and for anyone here who commutes its definitely worth taking a look at (or maybe a cbr250 :thumbup:). Gas mileage is unreal compared to the 600 and depending on where you live it can save you A LOT on insurance. I went from roughly $140/month down to $80/month with the 250.

All that being said I do miss the power of the 600, especially if I'm traveling any serious distance - or merging on the freeway. It really is a "commuter" bike. Just my $0.02.

I am actually buying a black 2013 Ninja 300R ABS for long-ish rides. For exploring/traveling alone (where keeping up or competing is not an issue) they are a blast! It is more fun riding a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow - although most of us just ride our fast bikes fast even though it is more dangerous and illegal on the road.

I have had two 250Rs and they zip 0-70 much faster than you would think (faster than most cars). I would ride 2-up all the time, combined weight 300lbs, and have no trouble cruising at 80 on the highway and I still averaged 57mpg. Alone in the country I could get 70mpg. The new Ninja 300 is even more fuel efficient not to mention faster. It also runs 87 octane. I highly recommend picking one up for commuting/adventures and saving some miles on your 600RR. Then when you jump on your 600RR it will feel even faster!!

My first 250R was an 06, I paid $2,000 for it in 2007, rode it for 5,000 miles or so, and sold for $2,500.

The second was an 03 and I paid $1,300 (in the dead of winter), rode it for 10,000 miles, and sold it for $1,500 AND a set of Enkei 17" rims which looked great on Civic for years :)

The 250R is SOOOO economical and the only reason I have not kept one as a second bike is the carburetor. Now that they are FI I am picking one up!!

You will likely make money on the bike. If you're paying $80 you probably have full coverage- save yourself some money! I paid $130/yr for my 250Rs because I just carried liability. They are not a hot item for thieves, the supersports are.

The DRZ400 is still carb'd. Get a Yamaha WR250R. I love mine!! Bought it new for $5,800 out the door.
