Bad TPS... Can you recalibrate?-RESOLVED

Hey guys.. So I have a bad tps.. Is there any way to recalibrate it? I just don't wanna have to by a whole new throttle body on ebay and most likely get another bad one. What do you guys think? Please help!:banghead:

Oh its on a 07cbr600rr..
You can't recalibrate :/

Sorry, man.

I think that TPS's themselves are pretty hardy units themselves, and I think there's something to be said for the ebay assemblies. As long as you can get electronic confirmation that the TPS works for that assembly (probably just in an ebay message of the seller responding to your question), you should be good.

I'd say give one a shot!

Also, just in case...

Make extra sure that it's just the TPS! I came very close to buying a replacement throttle body assembly when I realized that I actually had a bad ECM.

How did you tell the difference b/t the tps and the ECU? Mine will just get stuck around 5K and if I let go of the clutch slowly the bike will ride around at 10mph giving it no throttle... So I kinda figured it was off.. There is no way to adust this? Hmmm..
I've never gotten a definitive explanation for why it can't be recalibrated, aside from that it's factory set and matched to the throttle bodies. Maybe the calibration tool is ridiculously expensive, maybe the sensor is sealed in such a way that it can't be reset. The real issue is that when TPS's go bad, it's not because the calibration is off. If the calibration is factory set, it most likely means it's not adjustable at all, even for accidental resets. If the sensor is bad, the parameters within are most likely still on, there's just a malfunction elsewhere in the unit.

As far as checking the issue, you'll have to pull codes. It sounds pretty menacing, just by virtue of how vague written descriptions are, but it's really easy. Here's a link to the thread about this:

Thats the catch.. I am not throwing any codes at all.. This was just all diagnoses I have come up with after the hours I spend all weekend working on it. It either has to be the ECU or the TPS. I am just not sure whic one.
It should be under warranty still. Check with your dealer.
Are you getting an EFI light at all? MIL? Hmm... if it was the TPS, you SHOULD be throwing codes, by hey... it's not a foolproof system. Who knows exactly what conditions set off codes.

Hopefully Nico will comment on this, he's helped with some crazy stuff.

Could it be a stuck throttle cable? Does it get stuck at 5000 on the way up, or after a while of riding? How does it idle?

That's odd, man.
Check the cable already. I tore it all down to the throttle body this weekend. I just bought the bike from someone super cheap because it was throwing an FI light but only had 5,000 miles. I plugged in the servo and map sensor then everything went away. But now it is running super rich, about 100 miles to a tank. And I have no low rpms at all. The idle sits a 2K no matter what. Doesn't fluctuate unless you pull of the map sensor then it drops. The next thing is when riding it with everything plugged in, it will get stuck at any rpms higher than 5K, about when the 2nd injectors kick in I would say. And its not just 5, its 6, or 7. Not really the safest.. lol. But I am stuck on ECU, Throttle body replacement, or Map. I found on ebay an ecu for $40, and throttle body's for $80 with a working TPS at least they say. So just trying to figure out what to do.

Since I am the 4th owner I don't think it would be would it? Not to mention I am pretty sure it has been wrecked but It has a clean title on it. How would you go about seeing if it is still under warranty?
I have cleared all the codes out so it isn't throwing any. But the bike doesn't feel right and it is running rich. I am just trying to figure out where it is coming from. I have the manual so I have been going through it today at work and I need to go home and check the voltage and continuity of everything.. Damn.
To op could you have a read of my thread

Do any of my symptoms match yours?

Yeah I looked through it earlier. My symptoms are different. The bike will run fine, no FI lights, it will just idle high and stick there until you re-engage the clutch. Almost like it isn't shutting the butterfly's at all. I can't figure out what it is except, bad map, tps, or ecu. I am just trying to figure out why now.
Okay cool, it's so annoying trying to find what the issue is ha

Good luck with your problem anyway, hope it's a cheap fix for ya

Danny
Thanks, I am waiting for my buddy to bring my volt meter so I can start testing this. I am pretty frustrated right now that I have to tear it all apart again.
I tried testing all my voltages but I'm shocking with electrical stuff so I'm gunna get my cousin to help me. Once there all checked and if all is fine it's goin to a mechanic

Danny
Well As of now, I am stuck at replace the map sensor with a known good one, then check with the HDS which I don't have. And then its either ECM or Map sensor... crap.
Is it possible to have a bad Map sensor and not throw a code? Or if its not throwing any codes should I just assume the ECU is bad and get another one?
Even a bad ECM should throw a code. Are you sure you're following the right code pull process for an 07? Seems really odd that it's not throwing any at all. It could be purely mechanical, I guess.

Who know. I really hope this gets resolved for you soon, man, I know how frustrating it can be... I had mine out of commission for 2 weeks looking for an issue.

I love you man. Just so you know.

I had like 9 beers, sorry guys.

F***ing Sensors!!

Hahaha, awesome. As long as they were quality beers. The only way I thought it would read a code is if the key is on and the MIL blinks a number of times and you look it up? Does it have another Diagnostic that will check it out?
