I think a Honda will win, but not sure which rider. I would prefer Nicky, but we will have to wait and see.

The Link is no good. Here is the story from motoGP.com:

Repsol Honda confirm Barros interest but deny deal

Repsol Honda have denied reports that Brazilian rider Alex Barros has signed with the team to contest the 2004 MotoGP World Championship. HRC's Sport Manager Carlo Fiorani today told www.motograndprix.com that he was confident Barros would be signing with the squad as a replacement for departed World Champion Valentino Rossi, but insisted that reports in the Italian and Brazilian press announcing the deal as official were wide of the mark. Barros must first sever his ties with Yamaha and the factory team’s major sponsors Altadis.

“We are waiting for a final answer from Alex Barros before we confirm the final solution for our team,” explained Fiorani. “So far there has been no announcement from Alex, no announcement from Yamaha and no announcement from Altadis – so as far as we are concerned there is no news and there is certainly no deal.”

Honda are set to begin their preseason testing programme at Sepang later this month, but Fiorani insisted that they will not be panicked into finding a replacement for Barros should he be unable to free himself from his contract.

“There is no need for us to rush anything because I am totally confident this issue can be resolved,” he said. “In any case, Alex is unfit to ride until the middle of February as he recovers from a shoulder operation so, I repeat, there is no rush. We are not negotiating with any other riders about the position and I am confident we will find a solution with Alex soon.”

I think the website was down for a bit. but it is up now. Here is the excerpt:

TUESDAY 13TH JANUARY 2004

Alex Barros has finally confirmed that he has a contract with Honda for 2004, replacing Valentino Rossi at the factory Repsol team.

The Brazilian, who rode for the Gauloises Tech 3 Yamaha outfit in 2003, will get his first taste of his new race machine next month, following the launch of the 2004 spec RC211V on January 28.
Speaking to Agencia Brazil Barros, who is still recovering from surgery on his shoulder, said: "It is a great chance for me. I'm taking the place of the champion, Rossi, and have been hired by the factory Honda team to defend their world titles."

Further confirmation of the move has also been provided by his official spokesperson, after being contacted by Crash.net Brazil.

Barros raced for Yamaha last year, and although the team's main sponsor, Altadis, was reluctant to let him go, Alex apparently signed for Honda anyway - the #4 is even rumoured to have avoided paying an expensive early release fee to Altadis due to small print in his contract...

Having won two GPs with Honda Pons in 2002, last season saw Barros finish just joint ninth in championship standings, after riding injured for the whole year. His - and Yamaha's - best result was a lone third at Le Mans.

2004 will thus surely be make or break time for the 33-year-old GP veteran, who must now quickly convince the likes of Mick Doohan that he can still win a world title.

Meanwhile, Yamaha development rider Norick Abe is expected to replace Barros at the Fortuna backed Tech 3 team.

Just wanted to point out that although rossi rode the RCV211V during 2002, Barros got a chance to ride it too during the last four races of the year. In those races, he beat Rossi 2 out of the 4 times. Which is incredible given that he was going from the 500cc two stroke to the 4 stroke during the championship, and wiith just THREE DAYS of practice beat Rossi. In 2003, Hayden go the Honda deal and Barros moved on to Yamaha and got screwed. For Rossi's sake, I hope they have improved the Yamaha.
