Sorry for the drawn out story, but I want to make sure I covered everything.

I bought a 2009 600RR a few weeks ago. The bike had been sitting for at least a month and only clocked about 80 miles total in the last year. Battery was dead so we had to jump it so I could ride it home. Ride was about 45 minutes, no issues. About a week later I tried to start the bike not realizing the kill switch was flipped (newb..). After 2 attempts it killed th battery. Realized the switch was on turned it off. I got the battery charged last weekend at Autozone, they said it tested fine and held a charge no problem. Installed the battery and started it, let it idle for about 5-10 minutes, then took it for a about a 3-4 mile ride. Bike sat for about 4 days, then lastnight I started her up, let it idle for a couple minutes while I put all of my gear on, then went to take it for another little ride around the block. Again, only about a 3 mile ride (cant leave neighborhood because Im still waiting on the title). I pulled it back into the garage and the plan was to let it sit and idle for 10-15minutes. When I went to put the stand down, I hit the shift lever and it killed the bike. Now it seems like the battery doesnt have enough juice to turn it over again.

So here is my question, is it possible that I just didnt keep the bike running long enough to recharge the battery, or could there be something wrong with the stater(?) that isnt allowing the bike to recharge the battery? Or do I just need a new battery? Keep in mind, I drove the bike home about 45+ minutes and had no issues at all.

Doubt it's the stator.

Do you have a tender? How did autozone charge the battery? It usually takes a good couple hours....

I dropped the battery off thursday and wasnt available to pick it up until saturday morning, so it was charging for quite a while. I dont have a tender yet, but plan on getting one soon.

I wouldnt be surprised if it is the battery. Batteries don't like sitting for periods of time totally dead or not being used. If starting is unreliable, that's the first thing I'd check/replace.

What kind of battery would you recommend? The local Barney's had an AGM for about $120 and a standard one that requires initial charging for about $90

AGM. Standard SLA batteries that will fit in where the batter goes don't have the power density to stand up to starting the bike. AGM do...

Get a lithium battery.

Try an EVO2 8 cell and follow up with how it works.
Special charger, for a balanced digital topping charge....

Other cheaper, maybe Shorai...

If you are after a LiFePO4 battery, look at the motydesign 8 cell... PM browningbuck, he is the one that makes them. Really good battery, top notch service and good price.

Thanks for all of the input. I just bought a stock Yuasa battery from the local powersports dealer. Hopefully no more issues...
