What are the best fitting swingarm spools for an '09? I have heard you have to use washers in some of them to make them fit properly. thanks

Best? That's subjective. I have Vortex spools and they don't require any sort of washer.
Never heard that, I just got some off ebay for $8.
Havent heard of it either, im using some woodcraft spools/swingarm sliders with no problems
sometimes the right spool needs a washer. I bought woodcraft, I think it came with washers.

I got some off ebay too, no washer required and they fit real nice and tight on the bike.
yes 8mm-and get woodcraft if you have budget.

BUT these spools DO NOT do much in the way of protection.

and can damage swingarm if unlucky.

Axle sliders =better protection.

I have the spools that came with my rear stand, and i had to use a nylon washer that i painted flat black to ensure the spool wasnt rubbing against the frame on the right side. On a 2008 600rr BTW

Can you use axle sliders with a rear stand? And how it the instalation?
i use the cheap $5 dollar ones from harbor freight and they work just as good as the $20 dollar ones i had before that flew off
Most people use spools for lifting their bike up onto their stand...The ones I got on ebay are pretty beefy compared to most I've seen and I'm really happy with them. Save some coinage and invest in frame sliders for protection purposes and just get any spools for maintenance purposes. Just my $.02
like an earlier message said, the spools offer no protection. i went down last night and the spool and the metal thread the spool screws into got completely ripped off the swingarm.
Go with the Vortex spools. Thats what I have. It is true that with some you have to use spacers because they wont clear the swingarm. The Vortex are spaced out for the clearance. Plus there small, lightweight and look snazzy!

That is pretty common with spools on out CBR's.

Hmm I have yet to feel a heavy spool. And how do the look snazzy there are slider spools and regular spools other than that almost all of them look the same.
should I be looking for protection? I was just looking for something so I can get it up on the stand
No you shouldnt, the bigger they are the more likely they will rip off and damage the swing arm if you crash.

I have and really like the woodcraft swingarm slider/spools.
Also don't forget the blue (242) loctite.
