I would say a cover is best investment not only protects your bike from elements but keeps its profile down, for the most part. After that I would say some form of chain or braided steel lock that way you can lock the frame and not just a wheel. If your lucky you can even lock it to a solid object. Finnaly break disk locks are rather cheap, if your parkin in area with lots of bikes and your bike has the break disk lock most thiefs probably just lift some one elses bike especially if there is another of same brand/model there.

I use all 3 =)

Growing concern!!

I cruise a couple of bike sites and i've also seen a disturbing increase in the amount of posts on bike thefts.

The growing concern prompted me to look up GPS enabled alarm systems.
I found this: http://www.unitracking.com/

This spring (I'm in the northeast), I'm going to seriously look into this service - as far as pricing and any insurance breaks I can get from it.

It's easy for some to say, "ah, just have the insurance replace the stolen bike.." but after spending time, $, and effort to get it just the way you want it, damnit - I don't want to replace it, I want my baby!!!
