ok

some guys put 2 stroke oil in diesels (remove carbon and lubricate diesel pump)
some put it in petrol engines (remove carbon)
some guys branch and free flow their cars and trucks (or at least remove the cat)

i struggle to get 35mpg on my 2005 model, while i easily got 44mpg 2 years ago. what gives?

can i decat it?
can i 2so it?

I'd say you're riding it harder.

2005 doesn't have a cat does it?

2 stroke oil will make it smoke.

run some fuel system cleaner through it.

but fuel system cleaner wont improve consumption.

i probably am riding it harder. still, if i look at what others are getting, i should still do a lot better. a large part of my commute is <6000 rpm range.

with 2 stroke oil I'm thinking (250ml : 50 liters of gas on a car) 75ml : 15 L for the bike

it moves freely when i push it or on an incline/decline so brakes not an issue.

what is the benchmark economy for a cbr in top gear at a constant 100km.h? for a bmw gs1200 its about 18km/l.

no I don't budget. it's my toy, so when it's (warm and dry enough for) playtime, I just play!

A zx14? why would I want a horrible ugly big heavy thing like that? I just came off litre sports bikes back to a 600 because they're far more fun.

Never understood people that buy a supersport and after ask for fuel economy; this is a sport bike with more than 100horses and that horses are hungry..that's it.
ps: i pay 8,65$ every gallon of petrol so i know pretty well how expensive is this bike but this isn't the point, want a sportbike? well before ask yourself if you can feed it.

i only get about 35-38 mpg on my 2004 so enjoy.want a good fuel consuming bike get a 125 ,they can do 70+ mpg or a scooter some do 100 mpg. but dont complain how crap the acceleration is.the cbr600 is about fun ,not economy.... go enjoy it

truth. i happen to get fantastic mpg's but it's only because i'm little. even on the rc8 i still get better mileage than the car so i'm happy regardless

you could change to 520 sprockets for less rotational mass, lighter rotors and wheels as well. but i don't see it as that big of a deal

100 well fed horses will run further than 100 poorly kept horses. im not wanting to achieve scooter type mileage, but i do want to feed the horses so they get appropriate distance for the same effort, because it means i can keep the cbr.

background (since some assumptions were made about my reasons): when i bought the bike i wasn't going to commute with it, so mpg didn't matter, however now i commute with it and its something to plan for. an extra 1 mpg will go a long way in the bigger picture hence my OP.

Run fuel cleaner like another here suggested, install new plugs, and air filter. After that it should be getting about the best mileage it can. Oh and keep the revs under 7K. Depending on the year bike (I think) the secondary injectors kick in at 7K - I have also heard 5K so like every other question on here, you get 10 different answers to the same question.

Small maintenance items can make a big difference on these bikes. Make sure that your chain is tight and not worn out. Air filter should be clean. I replaced my spark plugs at 30k miles and it made a simply huge difference in performance and engine "smoothness". Run some techron fuel system cleaner through a few tanks. Higher mileage may mean that your valves are in need of adjustment as well.

I went with the air filter, spark plugs, and chain maintenance route. Mine stays pretty consistent for mpg and it's reaching 30,000 miles now.

I only care because of total range per tank; if I can make it down to Austin without having to stop that'd be awesome. I'd start with lifting it on stands and spinning the wheel by hand: see how many rotations you get, brakes may be rubbing but in theory they should fade almost immediately if that's the case, the quality of fuel in your area, and even body position (how well you tuck into the bike) all have an effect on mpg's. Also if you've modded it are you sure it's tuned right? Mine is rich as hell atm but I'm getting 40-45 with varying throttle %'s.

Pretty sure some goes in the gas tank and some in the engine oil but if you're considering it make sure it won't fvck up the gearbox because the same oil running through the engine runs through the transmission...at least on the 2010 it does.
