Something weird just popped up on my stock '03 RR. While accelerating onto the freeway i was going to run it up through the rpms, the engine didnt want to pull past 11k. No weird noises, no sudden drop in power, no sputtering, it just would barely pull through 11-12.5k and then the power came back on (dont know if it was fully back, but acceleration picked back up to what seemed normal) and it ran to redline. I've repeated this a few times over the past week and it seems to do it everytime i try to take it to redline. Below 11k the bike runs fantastic, and admitedly thats where its spends most of its life as a commuter.

Just for reference. The bike is all stock, oil just changed about 500miles ago with full synthetic, chain was tentioned at same time. It has just under 4k miles on it.

Like i said, other than this weird "dead spot", it seems to run great.

Any ideas???

you should dyno it before the PC so that we can see the graph of the dead spot. then install the PC on the spot and do it again to view the outcome.

Both of you guys check the fuel line between the fuel tank and the airbox. Make sure it's not kinked or pinched inbetween the tank. If the fuel line is fine, it's probably low fuel pressure. The fuel pump may be going out, the fuel strainer clogged, or the fuel filter clogged. If you can get it on the dyno look for a lean spot around the problem rpm range.

PS Make SURE you get an A/F reading before the CAT. In the tailpipe after the CAT won't do.

Weird...

I experienced the same problem yesterday. I blamed it on the cloged airfilter, excess oil, PCIII. It eventually went away.

I also experienced my starter spinning for the first time. It only did it twice on a cold start after I put too much oil in. Turned off the high beam light and it started fine.

What is the amount of oil you need to put in to take it from the lower line to the top line?

Check my bike and the fuel line from the fuel tank to the injectors was twisted a bit. Untwisted it and it now goes like a ROCKET!! Woooohooooo!!

You could have just had some bad fuel or water in your gas.

What's up with the starter though? As in the soleniod didn't kick the starter gear out? Check your battery voltage. Have you charged it lately?

I hope so..

Yup turned over then just spun twice. Should have a full charge. I had been riding it every day. I'll throw it on the tender tonight and see if it goes red or green.

Check it with a volt meter first. I never trust an dumb light like that. If you keep an eye on the battery every once in awhile with a volt meter you can track how low you can run the voltage before you start having problems. Mine will start to act up when it's hot at 12.6V.

Hmm, maybe now is a good time to get a power commander and get it to a dyno! ;)
That's not the problem.....and not the fix. Sounds like fuel starvation or bad gas. I'd check the lines & filters first.
