Hi, my 2004 seems to have an issue after riding for about 30 minutes. I had a leo vince full exhaust, 15k miles, and was wondering if it has anything to do with it. It seems after it passes 220F, 10 minutes later, the exhaust seems to rumble and I can feel less power. I was taking it home and it ended up dying and not wanting to start. After about 5 minutes, it started right up and seemed back to normal. Anyone know? Valve adjustments? Fueling issue?

It isn't overheating at 220F, so temperature wouldn't be culprit. When you turn it off/on, do you hear the fuel pump priming?

Are you stopped when the bike hits 220f?

how long does it take to rise from normal to 220f?

no Mil /DTC light?.

not normal to reach 220 if you are moving along at more than 20 - 30 mph.

unless you have a massive tailwind.

Any work recently done?

What do you mean exactly?

Around 30 minutes? Street riding though. Only thing I've done to it is change the oil and air filter.
Could it also be the cooling system?

30 minutes of open road streets or 30 mins of traffic and stop/go?

if you are riding open road for 30 mins bike temps should stabilise at somwhere around 170-185 f.

they should not keep rising to 220 f unless syopped and idling in traffic for 2-5 mins.

fan should turn on at about 220f.

is it?

Stop and go traffic. The tone of the exhaust changes to a rumble even though the fan cools the bike down. I'm going to flush the coolant out.

Riding this bike in stop/go traffic is not the bikes design/purpose!

It seems to do be fine on the freeway. I do notice it when street riding. However, for it to die without being overheated (doesn't go past 225f).
Riding in the city; are these bikes really not able to take on 30 minutes of street riding? (I know its not the bikes true design, but still.)

The bikes are designed to sit and idle in a closed room for hours with no airflow without overheating; riding in traffic is nothing if your cooling system is healthy.

Yours obviously is not.

I would suggest either taking it to a shop to get it checked out or getting a service manual and following the tests of the cooling system in it. My guess is your thermostat is shot, your water pump is bad or you have air trapped in the system that needs out. Your temp sensor is not showing you the right numbers if the bike is killing, BTW.

I tried to ride it one more time; it usually occurs with stop and go traffc. However, when I was riding open roads, it occurred as soon as I started riding on the street again. Freeway is perfectly fine though. When I restart the bike, it becomes normal. I will try to attach how it sounds when I get a chance. I got some new coolant and a friend coming to help me check it out tomorrow. He said it seems like some air might be trapped. Thanks guys, I will update.

Try burping the system first and see if that resolves said issues before dumping the fluid and replacing to find same issue.

Don't mess with your cooling system yet. Get a video of it happening for better clarity.
