----SOLVED---- Thanks 600RR Net!

Sorry for another 'wont start' thread... But, Honestly I have read many many 'wont start' threads on here, none with my problem.

Bike is a 03

I just finished reinstalling the engine after having the lower case off to be welded.

The bike starts if you crank it with the throttle pinned WOT. The engine slowly starts to fire and stumble till it finally will sustain rpm without the starter motor engauged. Continueing WOT results in the rpm getting to 1500 till it finally dies.

I have replaced wiring harness, ecu, remove pc3, changed map, jumped the bas. Charged the battery.

When pulling the lower case I had to remove/reinstall a timing chain guide, I am going to check cam timing in the morning... Does this sound like a cam timing issue?

While the PC3 was plugged in the LEDs on it went up and down with the throttle, so I believe the TPS is ok...

I have ohm checked the cam and crank angle sensors... they check out according to the Honda manual.

I have my was complete running 04 600rr sitting next to this one I am stealing parts off of to restore my late friends bike as a tribute. So logic would say I can make his run.

Thanks for your time and knowledge.

if you have a manual check the fuel pressure your getting otherwise the easiest thing to say is its timing is completely off! 180 degrees

Hmm. weird. I just got back from Cali and went to fire mine up the other day. Would crank but wouldn't start. I bounced the front end and half way open throttle and it fired. No problems since. Fuel must've gotten a bit stale. Not too sure on this issue though.

i can say this, fuel pressure is good hah... I have had to remove the fuel line enough taking the tank off that I am going to smell like fuel for a few days hah.

I am kinda thinking timing may be the issue... I never took the cam chain off so it shouldnt have jumped time, but I am going to check... I am not sure it would have compression if the cams were 180 out? I havnt checked compression, but I can say it sounds like a healthy RR while cranking. Quiet and solid compression pulses.

How do they run if the MAP vac line is damaged? It seems to be really rich when it is running...exhuast smells of fuel. The MAP wouldnt really matter if the throttle is in WOT bc there is no vac at that point anyways... so I am not sold on that diagnosis.... But was reading about it on another thread...

The gas in the tank is old... but I put it on my bike and it ran perfect, no problems so I assume it should do the same on this engine.

Does this sound like fuel fouled plugs to you? I could change plugs between the bikes and try that if you think that sounds like a idea?

Thanks

na def not plugs more gas or more air because of wot could only be a fuel or fire issue i say timing is def off sounds like its wanting to run when your pouring air in so check compression stroke and see what you get that sucks to do but gotta do it

Yeah, I did remove the tensioner. I had the lower case back on before I realized I had forgotten to reinstall the white guide... to reinstall the guide I had to remove the tensioner and the crank angle wheel (not sure what its called).

I put it back on by retracting it, while retracted I bolted it in place and released it.

I do not think I turned(by hand... deff not starter motor) the engine without the tensioner in place. I can't imagine knocking the cam out of time..but stranger things have happened.

Soon I will be leaving the office and can check these things out and report back....Hopefully with good news.... I can't wait to hear it run. Will be a nice sound to return after such an unfortunate event.

Thanks

----SOLVED----

Well, Just got in from the shop.

It was the cam timing, I must have turned the crank while the tensioner and white guide was removed.... It was off one tooth on both cams. Adjusted the chain... reinstalled he tensioner... hand cranked the engine a couple times and it lined up everytime. Reassymbled the bike and it fired right off.

Thanks for all the support. 600RR Net is the most helpful forum I have been on. I am on many civic and supra forums and none are as helpful and straightforward as here.

Thanks.

HAHA Thanks so much man!

Well now I am going to add a shameless plug to my own thread...

Before...When the late owner and my best friend BlueChrome1981(600RR sn) owned it.

As of the other night...

It will be back to Orange tribal once reassymbled.

I said it wasn't the timing. I guess that makes me an idiot. Funny, my mom has told me that several times too.
