this problem has been real tricky to fix.
every once in a while when i'm riding around town in low rpm with high beam on, the engine shuts off for no reason. this does not happen all the time.

only happens once 500 miles or once every 2 to 3 weeks. happened to me while i was leaned over taking a left turn...scared the crap out of me when i lost power to the rear right around apex.

here are the symptoms...
engine cuts out
the gauge cluster's back light goes out
fuel pump does not prime

here are the situations that cause these erratic symptoms...
i'm riding around with high beam on
puttering around town in low rpm (my speculation)

remedies attempted
took the bike to a local shop...problem seemed to have ceased but came back. they told me that my stock exhaust was melting the rear signal wires which caused shorts.... (?) ok fine. i took their word for it.
checked all the fuses...AOK
checked all visible connections with all fairings taken off
charged the battery by keeping the rpm at 10k+ on the highway for an hour.
my idle was raised to 1.5k
chain slack adjusted

doesn't happen when i ride low beam.

these are the mods i have on my bike...

2005 CBR 600RR

watsens / resistor / running light module
customLED integrated tail light
tripage 3rd eye plugnplay
arata full system
pc3 usb

Well, I haven't actually cracked into a wiring diagram. But I would think the high beam is the main culprit here. Somewhere something is grounding out, unfortunately you're going to have to trace it. Id start from the headlight wires and high beam switch and work back. Sounds like something may be grounding the ignition switch?

I've had a similar problem that's been killing me for the last few days. Same symptoms - exactly the same. Except for the high-beam issue. I'd switched out my indicators, and they had shorted. Someone at Honda had replaced my 10A indicator fuse with a 15A one, so it didn't seem to be a blown fuse. I checked the little yellow box taped to the frame near the battery. It's where loads of green wires converge. Two wires' connectors were burnt. I sanded down the metal, shorted the two wires, and bam - started on command. I'm sure its something that's shorted/grounded accidentally. Check the yellow box I mentioned, then all the wiring to your high-beam. If not, then let us know.
