Hey all,
So I pulled my bike out of storage today since its been snowing and cold for a while but today was about 50 so I rode to work. I have never had any problems with this bike before hand shifting was always easy. But today it just wouldn't shift. I thought it was my boots but I watched it carefully and just wouldn't go. I've had it stored outside since I got nowhere else to put it. Under a cover obviously. So I'm hopin it's due to it being cold or low oil. But any advise would be greatly appreciated. If I need to take it to a shop now would be the time cuz it won't ruin my summer. Thanks guys

Leme revise that. I could up shift eventually after a while of letting the rpm's going up. But it wouldn't shift when I normally shift.

Oil only has a few hundred miles. I changed it Before I stored it. I'm checking the oil tomorrow I'm hoping its an easy fix or just needs to be warm. Should be about 60 Saturday so il ride then and find out if its weather or what.

Condensation happens sometimes and can make your oil milky brown and contaminated, very similar to oil that's had coolant leaking into it. How long did it sit parked?

Yep change it, it couldn't hurt and its the first logical step. Use Rotella T6 if its gonna be sitting again to avoid wasting "good" oil.

I use Mobil 1 racing. Lol. I have an extra quart sitting in my garage. I might just drain about a quart and then add fresh quart to it. Ya it's not a full 4 quarts but its a little freshness. Il do that Saturday when it's gonna be warm and il see what's up. I just bought new boots and thought maybe it was my shifting so il wear my normal shoes I used to wear to eliminate that possibility. It couldn't be a mechanical problem since it was working great a few months ago and I didn't do any engine mods. Just a Leo slip on

Boots will make it feel different at first but will be awesome after you get some seat time and get used to it. You are using Mobil 1 for bikes right?

Ya..I'm thinking draining it might be a good thing too. Maybe take a quart of "cheap" motorcycle oil and dump that in there too, just to make sure you get all the old stuff out.

Curious to hear how it turns out though, hopefully it will be a non issue after your oil change.

Il post up what happens Saturday after the oil change. Il ride it again tomorrow for sh*ts and giggles. Il let it fully warm up to operating temp and take a spin around my sub.

Il prolly just but another quart of Mobil 1. Or I may have a few bottles with extra oil since the bike only hold 3.7 or 3.8 quarts so that extra .2 or .3 quarts adds up. Lol

i dont get why all the talk about changing oil

oil will not out right stop a gear shift ....

1) are you using the clutch?
2) have you even let the bike warm up so "cold oil" can be eliminated?

Yes I do use the clutch. And it's at normal operating temperature. I have dealt with low oil before and it had a problem downshifting. Same problem it would go down a few but not all gears. I filled more oil and it was fixed
