Went to change my pads today one side went great and super easy but the other side is being a complete bitch. Took the old pads out and used a C clamp and the old pad to compress. As I compress one side of the other side begins to pop out. I have never seen this ever, WTF does that even mean lol. I thought about popping the bleed screw and than trying it but didn't feel like making a mess. Suggestions? I'm also not getting any leaks btw.

Your reservoir is probably full. Nowhere for the fluid to go so the other pistons move out.

Remove the lid carefully, its likely got some pressure in there

it happens on every bike I change pads on.

I use a screwdriver to hold the opposite pistons backwhile compressing the pistons with my fingers. works every time.

Well you were right I cracked open the CAP and BAM. Was easily able to push back all pistons with no problem. But than another headache occured. I noticed that the lever was super damn squishy. I'm like WTF!!!! There can't be air in the lines I didn't open anything. I decided to bleed them anyway just to say that I did. After a couple of mins of bleeding the lever didn't get any harder. I than tried to roll the bike with it being and neutral and it was like the pads was still stuck to the rotor. I took off one side and test and BAM bike could roll. I inspected the caliper and what I found was that it was acting all fucked up. One side the two pistons wouldn't come out at all the other side wouldn't go in..... Is my calipers fucked up? Do I just need to get a rebuild kit?

no, you may be able to restore piston(s) correct movement by carefully cleaning them with brake cleaner.

it looks like I'm just going to take them off and clean them :( The only air compressor that I have though is one that plugs into a cigarette lighter so might take it to a machine shop and have them pop it out. And just reuse the seals since it never leaked. That **** sucks I was hoping to ride tomorrow.

That's what I saw after squeezing the brake lever and than pulling the caliper off. One side dosent retract while the other side never moves........ What the flying ****..

clean the **** off the pistons and they'll work properly!!!!!

you don't need to remove the pistons.

clean the ones that are sticking out with brake cleaner. apply a thin coat of red rubber grease to them then push them back in.

put a screwdriver in the slot in the caliper then use the hydraulics to push the other pistons out - the screwdriver will stop the clean pistons moving out too far.

push all your clean pistons back in and enjoy your fantastic brakes.

You're about 10 bucks worth of seals, and 15 minutes away from having freshly rebuilt calipers. Pull the pistons and clean everything. Put the new seals in and you're good to go. There's a rubber o-ring that seals the caliper halves together. This is easy stuff, but the benefits are huge.

youngy, and the X are both giving good advice.

Those pistons are filthy, and it is a tossup on which method to use.

if you have new seals it may be that the X's way is more efficient......if you want quick, go with youngy's solution..........

I have seen dirtier brakes than yours, always bleed the master cylinder first then work your way to the bottom. If you opened the master cylinder air got in.
