so i noticed that the time was off and when i went to try to reset it, i noticed that the buttons would not work at all. i could not chance from my trip a to trip b and i could not reset anything. electronics is my poor area of expertise so could someone chime in and help me out? what do you think it might be?

It's because the white buttons underneath the rubber part came loose or just fell out of place. It's a very easy fix. You will need to take your gauge off and take out the 6 screws that attach the gauge and simply put the white pieces back into place.

i had the same problem on my old 03. the bic pen fix in that thread linked did it for me. i don't think i took off the cluster either.

ha sound like we3 all have the same problem! thanks alot i am going to go try that today and let you know how i made out! thanks for all the replys

nope. just take off the rubber buttons and go from there.

follow the link i posted. it has all the info you need.
i ment taking the gage out of the cowl... never done that so wondering how... the link is rly good i got it memorized :)

You have a 04' same as mine.... all you do is take the lower, middle cowls, air duct covers and mirrors off. Disconnect the sub harness gauge sensors located on the left side of the bike under the cowl. Once you have done all that just pull up and out comes the nose leaving the gauge cluster visible. Reverse the order to reassemble.
