Hello

I notice a small bent in my front and back rims on my cbr600rr the other day. Its still holds the right amount of air. (36psi for front and 42 psi for rear checked cold). I even rode the bike around town for 60km/h let it sit for a 8 hours to recheck the psi and they are still 36psi for front and 42 psi for rear. So my question is do i really need to change my rims for a this small bent or can i keep them for now and get new ones down the line? Only was able to get the picture for rear rims but the front is almost identical bent.

That's a hefty ding!

if it holds air you're OK.....

where you at?

That rim should/can be straightened and returned to round.

I send my rims to "Frame Man" in Sac. Ca....for $150 I get a perfectly round (all 3 axes) wheel back

PS the Honda OE rims are some of the lightest OE rims, and ding/dent/wobble with little impact. I've put a good ding in them from hitting a bott's dot in the apex of a turn...expansion joints and potholes mean that most people who ride on the street will get a ding or 2....

Wow! How did that happen (to both wheels)? That would sure make me nervous. I wouldn't want to rely on them that way for too long.

Im from Canada and the streets are filled with potholes, I have better angles of the picture for rear and front. If I can straighten them will they still perform like before or will there be some hiccups? Any further advice will help, thank you guys

You mean the potholes are filled with sections of street? At least here on the island it seems that way. I'd get them straightened if you can find someone local who does it. You'll feel it while riding.

thank you guys, i really dont wanna spend 1500$ on new wheels, if straightening them will keep me away from troble ill be looking for one in my city, again thank you guys

visit montreal you will know what im talking about, you will have better offroad experience in the inner city roads than actual offroads......

There are many rims new/used listed on Ebay for Cbr's. I'd also check Craigslist. Just might be a better option if you either can't find a place to fix or there price is too high.

whicj is better? repairing my rims or getting a used one off ebay? they are about the same price

That's for you to decide.
But if you want different color rims now might be the time. I've been an Ebay member since "03" and NEVER had a problem buying any item. I only buy from LONG standing members with feedback of 99.5% or higher. On an item like rims , I'd also message the seller through Ebay and specifically ask if the rims are straight. If they answer yes, you now have more than enough proof if a problem should arise through Paypal. Either way, you sure as hell wouldn't see me riding on the rims the way they are now. Be safe!!

IMHO, keeping these rims straight is an ongoing effort.

Kinda like bicycle wheels.

These rims are the lightest OE wheels from the four Japanese manufacturers for a 600cc class bike.

I ride a very nicely maintained road 95% of the time.

When moving at a good pace, if I hit ONE bott's dot on the road when leaned over, it can ding the rim like the OP's pic.
(and the rim had a wobble after that as well!)

I'm sure that most used rims (of this OE type) you'll find on ebay are out of round on at least 1 axes, and most probably 2?

With a good rim repair man you can at least get a well trued (all 3 axes....important!) rim back.

Find that good repair guy and treat him with respect!

Where do you start looking? Do places like Cycle-Gear or Honda dealers have connections for this type of work?

I'd get them repaired, it shouldn't be too expensive, and you'll know they're 100% true compared to used eBay rims.

I've had my car wheels done a few times by alloywheel repair companies, and they will completely refurbish the wheel so it's back to being as good as new. They'll straighten any dents, repair any little chips, and then powerdoat/paint whatever colour you like. Dunno about US prices, but in the UK it's about £70 a car wheel, so can't imagine it'd be more than $100 per wheel for you in the US.

Your local Honda dealer might have a company they can recommend, as they'll probably get the same work done if they sell used motorbikes.
