Removing my head so i can turn my block into a table lol. I want to keep the head in good working order. Im confused about the cct in the service manual it says I need to turn it clockwise until it stops then insert the key. Isnt that just putting alot of tension on the cam chain? Why would I do that if I'm removing the head and cams? Is it going to damage the head, chain, cams or cam sprockets in anyway? I dont have a key but noticed with a small screw driver i can move the cct clockwise with ease but i cant go counter clockwise with out a good deal of force..

I dont rly have a great understand of the cct or how it would damage something. Whats it going to damage just the chain? Thats goin in the trash anywho.

turning it clockwise pulls the tension off the chain

or you could just remove it and worry about turning it back in once it's out. it doesn't matter.

Ill try that it prolly wont be going back in. So going clockwise retracts the tensioner

Thanks for the help boys! Took it off i understand now.

You guys think i could get the clutch basket bolt, flywheel bolt, and other one on the crankshaft off with a electric impact?

I think im going to find out. Clutch basket bolt is staked on and im not gunna undo that.

yeah an electric impact will probably do it. assuming it's a hard hitting 1/2"

you can un-stake the clutch hub nut with a small screwdriver and a mallet.

Just need a screw driver and hammer. Left everthing in my lair haha could have thought this threw a little more just brought my sockets home.

Anyone know is the flywheel interference or tapered?

I think i can just leave it on not sure what im going to do with the crank..

For anyone that wants the know a socket in the flywheel (deepwell 8 or 10mm) between the flywheel and case will hold it so you can get both bolts out flywheel and i think the other is the starter gear bolt

Also haven't tried it yet but a long extension between the basket and the end of the work bench should allow you to get the clutct basket lock nut off

haaha no, ramming an extension into the basket won't let you get that nut off.

the nut is connected to the input shaft, not the basket. you don't need to hold the basket you need to hold the hub. once the hub is off the basket slides over the input shaft on a bearing and meshes with the spline on the crank shaft.


don't be ramming extensions into anything. please

Oh bummer about the basket. Shouldn't hurt anything could use a wooden dowl too
