Question for those that have ridden COTA - I've ridden twice back in the early days of Ridesmart doing track days here. I'm a level 2 rider, but I don't claim to truly know the in's and out's of track riding. I don't recall bumps in the track, but reading about the riders complaining of bumps and how dirty the track is makes me wonder. Have you guys that have ridden it lately experienced these bumps and dusty track, or is this something that only the highest level guys really experience?

Another article mentioned Jack Miller getting his windscreen broken from rocks flying around. Sounds like a regular old Texas country road out there!! It was still fun watching the practice sessions today, but you could definitely see the bikes bouncing through turns 17/18.

I imagine it's more of an issue when you're pushing 240hp. Also, cars run that track as well, and I think what happens is that when cars enter braking zones, the sort of push the track surface in the same way you would bunch material by pressing on your shirt sleeve. So that creates rolling lumps that bikes are more sensitive to. At least that is might hypothesis.

I did a trackday there in November '17 as a LVL 1 rider and it wasnt even a consideration...most folks who right 2:30s or slower wont notice much but some others who are hitting 170+ on back straight say they can feel it. Im not an expert in any of this, but most complaints are bumps on the back half of the straight going into 12 that they say are caused by the braking G force from formula 1 cars and could also be from the rock/slate underneath the track that is shifting. All of central texas is sitting on rock, i have random boulders coming out of back yard every time it rains. There is also a bump on the racing line at turn 18 but its from the candy stripe to about 3ft out on the right hand side, so a lot of motogp riders were riding to the left of it including marquez....who took pole doing that. Its still an exciting track to ride, but ridesmart is doing a LVL 2A and 2B now, so its gone from 7-8 sessions a day to 6-7. When i went in november we only got 6 sessions...$475 with a garage for 6 sessions and 5 of them had red flags.

Are you located in central texas? Im new to the cbr world after owning 3 gsxr's. I just sold my 2013 600 track bike and im picking up a 100% stock 2012 600rr with only 1410 miles on saturday.

Yep, I'm in San Antonio. I've ridden it twice, both times when they had the 2A and 2B sessions. I could see the bump you're referencing during the race and practice laps - they'd be flying through that sweeper and suddenly dip in right there. I don't really recall it myself from riding there, but likely I wasn't that close to the stripe in that area. Sucks that you got so many red flags in your session when you pay that much - people need to dial it back a notch. Nobody is getting on a podium, no need to think you're Marquez riding around out there, hahaha.

Hope you enjoy the CBR. I've got the 2008 and I love mine!

That's right, COTA is no longer perfect. It's still absolutely awesome, though. There is a small bump just before the apex of turn 2, there is also a rut (filled in) and a bump just after the apex at turn 10, I run the candy stripe to avoid it. There are barely noticeable bumps close to the end of the back straight. And, there are the bumps at the apex of turn 18, I run just a little wide to avoid them. None of them keep me from riding COTA every chance I get. The staff has shaved much of the bumps to smooth them out.
