Just put the D&D on last night. HOLY COW! IT SOUNDS AWESOME!!! Yep it's loud and I don't care. The loudness doesn't matter to me since it has a great tone! It's like listening to a Bose surround sound very loud! Yep it's loud, but dayum it sounds good!

Working on the heat extractor mod today for the rear cowl. I will probably reshape the tray that makes up the bottom of the cargo compartment. It will be in the way for any good airflow. I'm considering adding screen material to the rear cowl instead of cutting the pseudo vents out. More 1000RR ish that way I think.

OH yeah. The midrange and lowend on this 600RR now is awesome! It has much more torque now. I say that since I can feel a difference down low. We'll get the dyno numbers next week just to see how much it changed.

Very cool. I thought the same way when I put my D&D on. It was loud but in a sweet way.

When you get the vent project done, post up some pictures. I'd really like to see what it looks like.

I will do that. You could remove the factory fake vents and just add the screen mesh. It will allow some air under the rear cowl and should help cool it some, but I think I'll do the tray mod and redirect air flow over the twins.

I was thinking about cutting them out and doing the mesh. I might this winter as a project.

If you want to just take them out of the cowl and do the mesh, there are only two screws on each one. It's a clean looking hole when removed, I'd just add the mesh to keep a more finished or factory look. Otherwise you see the cargo tray lower.

Gotcha! I'll go snap a couple now. Forgive the mess in the garage. My Stang is "in process" right now and I've got two engines kinda cluttering up the cycle bay.

My intention is to modify the fake vents to make the functional, heat has not been an issue for me though. This is just the cosmetic pieces removed with 2 screws on each one. I will be getting the screen material and sheet aluminum to rivet in place today.
No you couldn't fit anything in the gap. The under cowl is different on the 05+ RR's that is why the pipe is directed more parallell to the ground. Further back under the rear "passenger" seat it is very close to the heat shielding applied to the underside of the cargo area. The gap from the integrated tailight to the twin cans, at it's furthest point is 2.75, at it's closest point it is 1.5 inches. Hardly enough room to stick another can in. I am pleased with the look, however I think the 03-04's look better. The power and sound far surpassed my expectations, so that makes up for the minor angle difference. Personaly, I still like the look of it much better than the single large round can, that looks like it belongs on the side of a 93 900 RR, that has been forced up the tail of the bike.

Yeah, now I see the fitting... Seems to stick out more on the new bikes than on my 04...

..or maybe not.

sarcasm > you, i was j/k about fitting another can in there.
If the intention is to imply that sarcasm is greater than my capacity for comprehension, you missed just a bit. I got it, I think it would be just as easy to say the sarcasm I posted about the 900 RR can may have passed you. Perhaps the real explanation is that it is harder to detect intent on abbreviated net posts.

Yep the 03-04's have a much better look, but they both sound the same! ;-)
