I live at the deadend of my street on the coldasack. I was just riding in a circle with my daughter sitting up front b/c she loves it, then I pull into the garage and all of the sudden 3 bicycle police literally come sliding into my driveway, they locked the rear tire up like we used to when we were kids. He jumps off and just instantly starts ranting about "which child was on the bike with you"
I said my daughter was and he said I was going to jail for endangering a child!!!
I wasn't riding with my helmet, I only made 2 laps no bigger than 20 feet in diameter and at such a slow speed. I know to some that may seem dumb but I don't see the harm in it really.
He ended up just giving me a ticket for not having my helmet and eye wear on. Nevertheless I'm screwed, when they find out at my unit I'm toast! I can't stand the MP's here at Ft. Campbell though! Sorry if there are any MP's out there reading this but I had to vent!!!!

I am not a military person, but do regular laws apply on Gov't property??? I know they are the law, but who do you pay? County, state, base?

Honestly, I think what you did was stupid. You can never predict what can happen, even it what seems like a harmless situation.

As far as the MP's are concerned, its seems to me like they were doing their job. Maybe they could have handled it a little more tactfully, but nonethless it seems like they were within their bounds.

As a former MP myself, I feel for them. Law Enforcement of any kind can be a thankless job much of the time. Most of it is listening to people complain, and tons of paperwork.

The military has its own law enforcement, we don't pay city and state fines, just a ticket, it will never be on my driving record either. It wasn't really the MP's that busted me, just the gay bicycle cops in little shorts!!!
To each their own though, I have respect for the law, I help enforce them, but like I said, I was venting, just pissed is all!
As for letting my chain of command know, I already have, I'm a squad leader so my PSG is cool with me, but I know my 1SG is a freakin nazi man, he's gonna make me work crazy hours now!

No, the military has its own set of laws. Any type of situation that occurs on a military base committed by a military person falls under military law. The ironic thing is, if your a military person and committ a crime out in town, you could in theory be convicted by both civilian and military courts. Its not considered double jeaporady. In reality most times the military handles the conviction of its own.

Yep, if I were to get arrested off post, they would just call the MP's to come pick me up from their holding cell and then I'd get thrown in jail on base. That is the norm, personally I'd rather just be in a civilian jail!!!

Its ok to vent bro, just realize that they were doing their job. If your required to wear a helmet (which you are) and you are out there not wearing one, then its their job to do something. If your daughter is on your bike and not wearing one too, even worse. Think about what would happen if their watch commander saw them let you go without even saying something. He would be pissed! I agree they could have handled it a little more nicely, especially in the presence of a kid....but in the end I side with them.

I had to go out in town more than once and bring home a drunk guy that was being held by the local police. Some of them officers!

Yea she had her helmet on. I wouldn't ever do that to my kid, she's 6 years old so she is old enough to be a passenger, 6 is the minimum. He just irritated me by jumping off saying I was endangering a child when he didn't even ask how old she was first.

Military Law for riding a motorcycle is long sleeve shirts, pants, boots, helmet, eye gear, gloves, and a reflective belt at all times. No exceptions, even off post, if we got in an accident off post & heaven forbid, were killed, andwe didn't have all that on we would not get our life insurance b/c we were not abiding by the military regulations!

Rules are rules brother. I think 99% of people who sign up for the military know they are going to being living a life dictated by an insane amount of rules and discipline. If you dont follow the rules, you have the chance to get busted. Plain and simple.

Did I bust everyone I ever encountered breaking a rule or law? No. Sometimes a verbal warning is sufficient. But if you get busted for violating a rule, you can vent....but you cant fault the people who busted you for doing their job!

Belive me I know what the rules are, I'm not new to the military. I've been at it for a while! I was telling Trip what the regs were, he asked.
