Hi! So I have an electrical problem if anyone could help me please???

About a month ago my dash went out while riding but I still had indicators headlights and clock. Bike otherwise ran as usual.
I replaced the 10amp dash fuse under the left side fairing and was all good.

But now...it's back!
However this time.. replacing the fuse does nothing as a new 1 blows instantly on turning the key. But still bike runs normal.
I tried 3 separate 10amp fuses.
Then I tried a 20 amp knowing it wasn't a great idea...but at least so I knew how much fuel it was reading.
But then within 10 seconds electrical smoke from under the seat.

I've checked the 2 30amp fuses under the seat and they are ok. Before I go any further... I ask you guys?

Thanks!

Sounds like a short in the wiring, I would check the wiring from the front back to see if you have any chaffing/bare wire showing, something else would be to look at "yellow" grounding block and make sure your grounds are good and one didn't burn off and it's shorting on something else. Adding the bigger fuse can cause more problems as it can heat up the wire and cause it to burn where the short is. With smoke you probably burned the casing off the wire. Check all components that are associated with that fuse, should say on the lid for the fuse block. T

Thanks that's today's plan. Yeh I knew I'd create more problems with the bigger fuse but I needed to read the dash even if just for a second. So I'm happy to wear it.

I'll post if I get any new info

Looks like speaker wire in there. That is never a good sign.

Agreed. I've cut everything back and spliced wires. All is working again for now until I get some proper heat shield tape and crimps for the joins. Speaker wire beats me ...it's wired to nothing...haha. Definitely previous owner doing quickest race bike to road bike conversion... and dumbest.
