well after not being able to get the starter to turn, i followed the directions in the service manual to hook the battery directly to the starter.

the motor clicked and then doesn't do anything, really strange.
I dread the thought of removing the old motor, buying a new one, replacing it bla bla. not to mention maybe taking the motor apart all togethor.

Do i have any other hopes? or do i just need to suck it up and get to work???

lol. just needed to vent i guess....

btw my bike was involved in a wreck and that's why i'm having to go through all this.

the hit wasn't that serious, could it still have affected the starter?

Could it be that the bike went down on the right hand side and has damaged the engine cover......and maybe the starter clutch/gears that go behind it?

I'd try to remove the starter motor then put a 12V supply to it and see if the motor spins off load of the engine. If it's no-go then it needs repairing/replacing. But if it spins over OK then something else in the motor could be jammed up stopping the starter motor from turning over.

I'm thinking there's something been dislodged or mis-aligned as a result of the crash. Could be worth checking the engine earth lead is making a solid connection too.
