Well, generally speaking, the north/central areas of the city are the "nicer" areas. Kind of depending on your budget for housing, but there's a broad range of places you could live. I havent been down this way much, but from what I've heard the south half, roughly, of the city has a higher percentage of lower income, potentially shady areas. Not saying its bad to live down there, but thats just what I've heard. Living here a few years, I've been on the northern end of town my whole time.

Tracks: You've got a smaller but fun track up in San Marcos, Harris Hill Roadway. They have kind of a "group" deal where you pay a membership and I think monday's are bike days, with a weekend trackday maybe twice a month? Its been a while since i've been up there. MSR Houston is about 3-3.5 hours away. Unless you're moving here in the next month or two, you'll probably miss out on Texas World Speedway as they are closing that one down this summer, or some time thereabout. Of course, Circuit of the Americas is just up the road near Austin only about 1.25 hours away. There are some farther tracks I havent ventured to, Eagles Canyon Raceway and Cresson that are up north towards Dallas I think.

As far as lakes, plenty of good to decent lakes around here too. Canyon Lake is about 30 minutes north/northeast of the city. Medina lake is out northwest of the city, about 30min-1 hour but the water there is pretty low so I'm not sure about wakeboarding. There's also Lake Travis and Lake LBJ (Lyndon B Johnson) up near Austin, about 1.5 hours away.

Thats a start. If you have any other questions or want more detail, feel free to send me a message.
