My 03 has sat up for about 3months. I decided to clean it up check fluids, pressures and take it out for a ride. I had to jump start it, I let it idle for 5 minutes then took it up the rode. It would barley run and cut out constantly.
It has fresh gas and ran fine before the 3 month sit. Only thing I can think off is that the battery was completely dead

In general a weak battery would not make the bike run right
get the battery full charged first if you do not have a battery
tender take the battery off the bike and any local automotive
parts store such as pep boys , discount auto , nappa would charge
it for you

I have the battery tender on it now. Hopefully its just the battery causing the problem. I will report back when its fully charged. I guess these bikes rely on battery power to run right?

Thanks

the battery drains pretty easily on these bikes, esp the older ones. My 06 would have the same issue if i don't ride it for weeks at a time (in between trackdays). you can usually jump start it and get it going, but it will just die again next time its turned off.

Best investment is a Battery tender. let us know how yours works out.

i am in the same boat as well, since my battery seemed to have died durin the 2-3 weeks that i have been working on it. lights go on, but engine doesnt' start cuz not enough juice. i was just gonan jump start it too, but having read this, i'm pretty sure it won't be constantly goin anymore either.

Anyone know how long it should be on the tender?

I jump started mine but it still ran like crap, im going to leave the charger on it for a couple days to get the battery back to full. if you just let the bike idle it will not charge

Sounds like there might be another issue besides the battery. The bike will run just fine with a so so battery it just won't start great. I would do as you say get it charged fully and see what happens. I tend to think you got something else causing you issues.

looks like it was the battery. I gave it a full week to charge up and just took it out for a good ride. So, it looks like a completely dead battery will make the 03 run like crap

I had this issue with my track bike. Ran slow, wouldn't accelerate properly. Then this past weekend at the track, went out for 1 session (it ran, but not well). Tried to start it for the 2nd session, dead battery. I had to put it on the charger (2 amp) for a couple hours before it would start again.

Looks like it's time for me to invest in a battery tender too. I'm having a similar probelm with my bike.
