some people like to run 100w bulbs cuz they are a little brighter, and are cheaper than HIDs. however, they draw much more current than the stock bulbs, and creat lots of heat. When you run that kind of current through these resistors that run hot to begin with, they get really hot! he is not using HIDs, HIDs are not rated like that with watts(which is not the brightness, but rather the rate of power consumption), they are rated with lumens (light output), they actually run at lower wattage ratings and they draw LESS current than halogen bulbs... You cannot use this "trick" with HIDs, they don't use a filiment, they have an arc of electricity across two electrodes. If HIDs don't have the required amount of voltage/current, they don't dim, they shut off.

Hey nate

I am planning to do this mod on my 03 600rr. I have a dumb question for you. What exactly does the relay look like? because i've been looking up the things i'll need online, and i can't seem to find it. And... is there anything I need to watch out for when I'm working on this mod?

Thanks

Relay looks likt this:

You can get a standard SPDT relay from any car stereo shop. There will be 5 terminals on it, and if you get one with a pigtail harness, it will come with colored wires already on it. only problem I see with this mod is the amount of heat the resistor generates, so just be carefull where you mount it. With the 55W bulbs and using at least 20W of resistors. They do not get thet hot. Still pretty warm tho. I have been running mine for 2000 miles now and no problems.

Sorry Guys. I can not make these at this time. They are real easy to make, just require a bit of time and a soldering iron. If you dont have one you can grab a cheap one to it.

So both lights emit the same wattage when you're on low beam correct? What happens when you flip your high beam switch on... do both bulbs get brighter or does only the high beam bulb get brighter?

I noticed this on my friends 600F4i.. it doesn't look right to me and it will bother me with my bike.

I'm also wondering, are the headlight housings exactly the same for both the low beam and high beam? If they are, I wonder if its possible to wire in H4 bulbs instead of the H7(if thats what it is)

no, they are not emmitting the same amount of light (lumens, not wattage), the high beam is only putting out enough light to look like the same brightness at eye level. If you squat down and look at the lights from the road, the low beam will blind you, whereas the high will not look as bright. This mod just makes it look like both headlighs are the same.

And, the headlight housing are NOT exactly the same. They both have different beam patterns, so using H4's would do nothing for you.

Thanks for the explanation. There has to be another way of getting both housings to be the same... The R6 projectors look great but they aren't always easy to find.
