I am no longer making these. I sold my bike.

Hopefully the mods dont get mad, as I messed up the last write up and want to start fresh.

Things needed.

1-10amp SPDT Relay. It is also made by NTE. Can use one found at an automotive store. $5.99
1-1ohm 25 watt resistor, or 2-2 ohm resistors wired parallel.$1.49 http://www.nteinc.com/resistor_web/resistors.html
(THIS IS FOR 55-60 WATT BULBS. DO NOT USE 100WATT BULBS FOR THIS)
I used an enclosure to put the relay I used in it. $4.99
Should be able to find these at an Industrial Electronic Store.
5' of wire
Soldering Iron, and some Solder
1.5 hours of your time

www.active123.com is where I got my stuff. They are located in Canada tho

Add all the wire to the relay. Leaving at least 12" of length for the wires going to the headlights, and about 8" for the ones going to the resistor.

The relay should look like this

I used mostly all black wire so It looks closer to stock looking.

Then drill out holes in the enclosure. 3 on one side, 2 on the other.
Slide the wires through the holes until the relay is in the enclosure.

Should look like this

Flip over the enclosure. I put about 5 layers of electrical tape to protect it from the heat of the resistors.

Add the wire to the resistors. Make sure to solder the connections.

I then cut the wire, and added some heat shrink. Then taped the resistor to the enclosure.

The relay is done.

I placed the enclosure under the instrument cluster using some double sided tape. It is hidden and out of the way.

You can follow the first picture on how to wire it to the bike. Solder and heat shrink all of your connections

Stock With One light Low beam

With low Beam on 100% and High Beam on at 40%

With Both Lights on 100%

This can be done many different ways. This is just how I did it this time.
If I do another I might try to incorporate everything inside an enclosure.

some people like to run 100w bulbs cuz they are a little brighter, and are cheaper than HIDs. however, they draw much more current than the stock bulbs, and creat lots of heat. When you run that kind of current through these resistors that run hot to begin with, they get really hot! he is not using HIDs, HIDs are not rated like that with watts(which is not the brightness, but rather the rate of power consumption), they are rated with lumens (light output), they actually run at lower wattage ratings and they draw LESS current than halogen bulbs... You cannot use this "trick" with HIDs, they don't use a filiment, they have an arc of electricity across two electrodes. If HIDs don't have the required amount of voltage/current, they don't dim, they shut off.

still need more for this list? put me down for one
Will this work if I have HIDS?
NO, unless you have a halogen high beam, this will not work. see post #41

I'm down for one too, Will my mtec bulbs work with this?
Hey nate

I am planning to do this mod on my 03 600rr. I have a dumb question for you. What exactly does the relay look like? because i've been looking up the things i'll need online, and i can't seem to find it. And... is there anything I need to watch out for when I'm working on this mod?

Thanks
Relay looks likt this:

You can get a standard SPDT relay from any car stereo shop. There will be 5 terminals on it, and if you get one with a pigtail harness, it will come with colored wires already on it. only problem I see with this mod is the amount of heat the resistor generates, so just be carefull where you mount it. With the 55W bulbs and using at least 20W of resistors. They do not get thet hot. Still pretty warm tho. I have been running mine for 2000 miles now and no problems.

This was a bad idea. It melted the enclosure.
I was just saying that they get hot based on your previous post. Sorry, I didn't realize that you were talking about 100 watt bulbs when it melted. my bad.
New RR rider but can I be added to this list for the conversion for both healights to be turned on
im kinda wondering too, would u be interested in maybe making a couple more?
Sorry Guys. I can not make these at this time. They are real easy to make, just require a bit of time and a soldering iron. If you dont have one you can grab a cheap one to it.

Nate
did the headlit mod today followed the procedure, worked good, but I put my box inside the yoke that holds the fairing stay on at the top , it fit inside perfect fit and all you see is the wires coming out to the head lite wires, thanks for the help
So both lights emit the same wattage when you're on low beam correct? What happens when you flip your high beam switch on... do both bulbs get brighter or does only the high beam bulb get brighter?

I noticed this on my friends 600F4i.. it doesn't look right to me and it will bother me with my bike.

I'm also wondering, are the headlight housings exactly the same for both the low beam and high beam? If they are, I wonder if its possible to wire in H4 bulbs instead of the H7(if thats what it is)

no, they are not emmitting the same amount of light (lumens, not wattage), the high beam is only putting out enough light to look like the same brightness at eye level. If you squat down and look at the lights from the road, the low beam will blind you, whereas the high will not look as bright. This mod just makes it look like both headlighs are the same.

And, the headlight housing are NOT exactly the same. They both have different beam patterns, so using H4's would do nothing for you.

Thanks for the explanation. There has to be another way of getting both housings to be the same... The R6 projectors look great but they aren't always easy to find.
