So the other day I was drilling a hole on my left fairing for my frame sliders to be installed, long story short I didn't think ahead and probably drilled through a few wires (the 3 yellow wires that go down to this black box thing). :retard:


I re wired them yesterday and noticed I still didn't have any power to the bike (when turning the key, nothing was lit). I found a fuse box right above it and I didn't blow any fuses there. I used my battery tender and the battery is full.

You forgot a picture, but I can guess that you took out the wires for the regulator/rectifier. I have never messed with mine, but I would think reconnecting the wires would do the trick. You sure you connected them to the original locations?

You can't connect them wrong. Its a 3 phase output.

Check the fuse on your starter relay. It's under the little plastic cover

Genuinely curious as to how you can't connect it wrong? If three wires got cut, and you switch two of them, it won't have an effect? Isn't there power in that gets regulated/rectified and then sent out?

They all generate positive which goes to the regulator/rectifier as AC which gets rectified to DC, then regulated to the 12V system.

It shouldn't matter, but soldering the wires could add additional resistance, but it shouldn't affect it much.

Not meaning to sidetrack the thread, but are our reg/rec 4 wire? Because like OP said, he cut three, and I think of the reg/rec and think of 3 wires not 4.

The three yellow wires are the ac output from the stator. Its just 3 phase ac. Mixing them up will make no difference as they are just connected to a rectifier.

With three phase the only result of mixing up wires is the phase rotation. It won't damage anything



And honestly, if the order mattered there is no way in hell they would all be the same color

I didn't think order really mattered either, I connected the cut pieces with 12 gauge wire, I didn't solder the connection but just kind of covered it with electrical tape as a temporary holder to see if the wires were fixed. I'm sure I connected them well but still no power to clock, starter, or anything really.

Did you check the fuse I told you to check? It protects every circuit in the bike. If its blown there won't be power to anything

Are you talking about the 10Amp fuse located in the fuse box? I checked all the fuses and none look burned out. I replaced it anyways but it had no difference. Unless you are talking about a different fuse somewhere else that I should check.

Check the fuse on the starter relay. Its under the seat. The positive cable from your battery goes to the relay, there is a fuse under the plastic cover on the relay. That's your main fuse, it's likely popped.

Ahhhh I thought I blew a fuse, well the fuse was bad and I replaced it with the spare nearby and voila, everything back to normal. Thanks so much for letting me know about the other fuse location!! Now time to secure these connections and put it all back.

By switching them around you affect the phase rotation, which in this case has absolutely no effect whatsoever.

Top picture shows what goes into the rectifier, the bottom shows what comes out (green line).

So whilst there is a difference in what is going into the rectifier, the end result is exactly the same.
