The Spaniard Toni Elias will continue to ride for the Gresini Honda Team in MotoGP next season having signed a one -year deal with Fausto Gresini.

After one season together, Fausto Gresini announced this morning the renewal of the contract with the 23 year-old Spanish rider who demonstrated, during the season, to be a determined rider. Last Sunday's achievement of his first Motogp win at Estoril, was once again the confirmation of Toni Elias' talent and strong potential.

Toni Elias will be Marco Melandri's team mate for the 2007 season, that sees MotoGP enters an exciting new era with the new 800cc rules coming into effect.

FAUSTO GRESINI: "I'm very pleased to announce the renewal of the contract with Toni Elias for the 2007 season. We have always believed in his potential and we have supported him at the beginning of the year when he made his debut on the Honda RC211V and throughout the whole season. Last Sunday's win at Estoril confirms that Tony is a talented rider with a great potential and enthusiasm. We are happy to continue the project that will see him next year on a Honda V4 800cc. We are motivated to grow and reach together important results. Toni Elias will continue working with the same team, an experienced and motivated staff. I'm happy to line up two young but strong riders for the 2007 season".

TONI ELIAS: said:
"I'm very happy to have reached this agreement. The renewal of the contract gives me the opportunity to continue the project started this year with Honda and Fausto Gresini. My priority was in fact to work with Honda in the team run by Fausto Gresini, together with my chief mechanic Fabrizio Cecchini. In order to take this decision, I have considered first of all the technical, sports and human factors. I believe this is the best choice for my sports career and I think we have all the elements to make a good preparation during the winter test sessions, in order to grow, gain experience and fight for good results. I'd like to finish the last race of the season with a good performance. But I really look forward to next year, I'm excited to ride the new Honda V4 800cc."

Now they need a new tyre...

After seven years of great collaboration, success and satisfaction, Fausto Gresini would like to thank Michelin for their support and help this season.

Since Team Honda Gresini started in 1997, they have achieved great results alongside the French factory with a great human rapport of friendship and respect.
Together they have scored 46 podiums in the premier-class, 14 victories in MotoGP, 20 second places, 12 thirds and 12 pole positions.

Fausto Gresini: "After seven years of racing with Michelin it is difficult to break up but as so often happens in life and in racing, paths can go in separate ways in the search of a fresh challenge. At this Grand Prix Team Gresini have ended a long collaboration with Michelin, which goes back to our start. They have been seven years of great collaboration and satisfaction. I want to thank the factory and their staff for helping us achieve great victories and fighting for the championship. With the 2006 season now over we are looking forward to next year and the new 800cc bikes. We take on the challenge alongside Honda once again but with a new tyre supplier. In the chase for the title we want we have decided to try and new way of distinguishing ourselves from the other factory teams."

i say bad move for them to go with Bridgestone tires, Repsol HRC develops their factory bikes along with Michelins while the Bridgestones give first dibs of their newest tires to Ducati & the Gresini will be at the far end of the line when receiving tire updates.

for me that is a blunder, they should've just stuck with Bib (the Michelin man).

you think so, i think theyll get even treatment, its in thier best interest, i mean Honda has the manufactorer's title, and bridgestone wont get on the factory bikes anytime soon, so why not give the satelite teams your best, if they get enough poles alongside the ducs, then thats gonna make em look just as good if not better than the next tyre.

the developement theory sounds solid tho. but surely its not that big a deal.

Michelin's gonna leave F1 Racing to concentrate 100% in MotoGP in response to the Bridgestone threat, yes the Bridgestones are getting better round after round but which tire do you often see in the podium & which tire has won more championships during the 990cc era.

Ducati, Suzuki, Kawasaki & now Gresini Honda are being shod with Bridgestones but Ducati will be the real focus of teh Bridgestone development & the others will just have to wait for the updates to trickle down b'coz out of the Bridgestone shod teams only Ducati has the potential to win more races.
