Hey guys, got a weird one.

So I planned on going for a ride today, started the bike this morning then pushed it out of my garage and the engine cut out with the oil, FI and HESD lights on dash. Mounted back on, started up. ran ok, drove down the driveway and down the road and it seemed a little bit stuttery. Returned home, let it sit there running for a couple minutes, no problems. Moved it again whilst it was in neutral, cut out again. Oil, FI and HESD lights on again Hmm.

Checked oil level, checked coolant level, checked fuel. Went out for a 45 minute ride, cruising from 100kph to sitting in traffic at 20kph. Not a single problem or suspicion.

Came back home, same problem when moving the bike in neutral. The only thing that has changed recently is I put a two brothers slip on on with a power tip.


Weird right? Does anyone have any ideas or any troubleshooting that I can do to help?

Yeah it just dies the same as it would if I hit the kill switch. However when I hit the kill switch when its running I get the oil light on but not the FI and HESD light. Pump primes everytime.

I got the same problem when my battery is low. Had to push start it yesterday took it for a run and now it's fine since the battery has charged. I think I need to change my battery cuz it's doing it more often.

Kickstand sensor? Before I did the splice trick to pretty much negate it, mine would kill power while riding.

My sensor was jacked up for awhile now though, I would be able to start my bike, in gear, with the stand down. So I already had to watch it anyways, So I just got rid of the wiring.

My kickstand censor is also bridged. Does it eat your battery?
Nah. it shouldn't because all it does is ground itself to break the circuit, it's not a source of power.

Could be your stator?

I checked the battery and I think that it is ok :-/. Got it booked into a garage on tuesday. Will let you guys know the results. Thnx :)

So this garage I have it in at the moment are telling me that they think that the HISS system is burnt out. Therefore I need a new system including new keys that need to be programmed in, new fuel cap and new pillion cap. That might be true, anyone had the same problem?. I wouldn't had thought that this would be a common problem? pretty ******** if you ask me as the bike is only a 2008 and has been very well looked after.

Also, it has just been sitting in my garage for the past couple months, not really been used and there's no sign of any possible damage to the steering lock or surroundings. Hmmm

When my bike started cutting out with no apparent reason

(it would cut out while riding, if I started her up again it would last a little and off again)

After checking everything, we finally found that the regulator had a short... So you could have a similar issue if your problem is intermitent, check for any shorts in all the electrical system...

Stator, Regulators are noramally the first place to look.

That's realy helpful mate. When I started her up to take it to the garage it was doing just that this time.. Started up, rides for a couple meters. Dies. Every time.

I'll get them to check that regulator.

FYI to everyone.. I got this sorted now, it ended up being the HISS unit playing up. Waited like 28 days for the new part to arrive from Japan.. popped it in, had to re-program the keys and she is all good. Wasn't cheap though.

Sorry to bring this back but I am the curious type, so what do you mean by hiss unit was bad? The antenna around the ignition? Or the immobilizer (ie inside the ECU?)...
If I remember correctly, the way hiss works is that you turn on the ignition (key) then the ecu signals the antenna (the part saying HISS on the key barrel) to read the code in the key transponder a number of times for a few seconds (2-3)...if the key is registered and the code is right, the ECU activates the fuel/ignition system (also the reason there is a fraction second lag between turning the key and hearing fuel pump prime)...if the code is not read or incorrect the hiss light doesn't go away and the pump won't prime... I don't think the hiss does anything beyond that point until the bike is turned off and back on (I could also be wrong)... Seems to me either you misunderstood the problem.... or they pulled a really fast one on you.

No idea mate. They just give me the bike back with the HISS ring thing on the ignition and you could see that some of the wiring was black. The initial diagnosis was performed due to the bike running fine but when you turn the handlebars it cuts out. Go figure :-/
