Ok
When I start my engine from cold it’s pretty quiet up to around 40-50 degrees, but then I’m hearing a slight/faint “knocking” noise! I’ve tried to listen but can’t find what part of the engine it’s coming from. When it reaches normal operating temperature (79 degrees) the knocking noise disappears! Definitely coming from somewhere on the engine and it’s not a ticking noise, but doesn’t seem to speed up if I blip the throttle or by pulling the clutch in doesn’t change this, any ideas guys and do I need to start worrying!

Am assuming this is normal for these engines then?
Without hearing it in person, i'm betting it is normal, or you need a valve adjustment (most likely normal). I have a 2009 over 70k miles, and have never adjusted the valves - too lazy, to scared to fk it up, and too many miles on the bike to give a damn. Doesn't seem to be an issue with startup, idle, or acceleration. No unusual noises other than the "ticking" "tapping" sound that has persisted since 2000 miles when I got the bike.

I’m at 23k and like yours it starts idles and performs flawlessly so I’ll try and ignore the noise

May be a silly question this, but I’ve been recently filling up with super unleaded fuel, would this cause any issues?

if your bike is a non-california USA model, it probably requires 93 octane. Using a higher octane than required is fine. Using a lower octane than required is potentially bad, but most likely fine as well.

(man i edit my posts alot - lol)

Bottom line, use the proper octane as stated in your owners manual.

Update
I’ve found it’s actually my clutch that’s making this knocking noise!
Starts around 32 degrees and stops on full temp at 78 degrees, clutch works perfectly, but do I need to strip it to check this issue?

I don't know. If it works fine I wouldn't mess with it. Do some research on your issue and decide if you want to take it apart.

Well it turns out it wasn’t my clutch,I’ve been filling up with 97RON petrol and I’ve just put a tank full of 95 through it and the knocking is getting less/quieter already!
Do the 03 model have a knock sensor,or has anyone else had this regarding the higher octane fuel causing this?

I would say engine noise to some degree is normal..trust me I trip on everything, every little noise I listen to so I finally just said screw it and just ride it and feed it good fuel as in 92 octane ethanol free (its spendy but the bikes engine is worth it) and keep the air filter clean and change the oil every 1000 miles max. I run the Honda full synthet HP whatever its called stuff for street bikes. Just ride and as long as it isnt an obvious knock or something that is seriously there and not just in your own mind then relax and dont worry bro.
