Sup guys,
im gonna pick up my '03 rr that i just bought this weekend and had some questions. The guy said it doesnt run. electricals fine, it just wont turn over or anything. i have to assume it has a blown engine. so my question is how hard do you think an engine swap woud be? if i picked up a new motor here or on ebay or something do you think a guy with a lot of spare time and a good tool kit could pull it off? im not a mechanic, but i can wrench pretty well:) do you think i could pull it off?
ps. if any of you guys know how much it would be to take it to a shop and have them check it out/rebuild it lemme know too.

i got the bike for $1500. i couldnt pass it up, i have to try somethng right?
go for it man.. it might take some $$$ but you had enough initiative to post something up so im sure you can handle your scandle... :pimp: post pics soon.

Get the service manual.. I have just put a new engine in my RR. Never done anything like it before but went real smooth.. let me know how you get on !!

cool, i will get a manual for sure. ill see what i can do this weekend when i pick her up...ill post some pics then too, thanx guys

i did mine awhile back. took me no more then an 2 hours. hardest part is lifting the engine back into the frame. you gonna need like 3 jacks and another person to help you hold it. it's a simple job. good luck and great find.

2 hours, wow that quick!! is that from striped down to fully re-assembled ? It took me around 5 hours after the old engine was out to getting it fired up. Done it 3 or 4 times now

Just follow the manual step by step the only bits I swapped the order of was the manual states to but the rad on before the header pipes, much easier if you do this the other way round as you have more space to work in ..

Lifting Engine in... I hoisted the bike up on a mini crane over the engine. Another method is to take the front triples and forks off and just pivot the frame over the top.. I went for the crane route as I didn't want any extra to do :) !

You'll need to make a tool for the castle nut. I made this out a old socket, and be carefull when doing the engine bolt adjuster up, they snap easy..

the fairing on my bike was already taken off. so ididnt have to mess w/any of that. but takin the motor off was easy. i didnt have a lift so i had to use 3 car jacks. hahah what i did was jack the engine up evenly until i can get the rear mount in and side the long axel in. after that its easy. i guess i got lucky that everything goes in perfectly on the first try. this is also my 3rd engine swap.
