I was looking at buying the Suomy Extreme Clear Iridium visor (the one that comes with the Extreme helmets). For the people who've used these, do you think it's worth the price? It's about double what I can get a normal visor for, but I'm interested in knowing whether there is really that big of a difference to warrant such a price jump. Any opinions?

I never had a suomy helmet or used their visor but i used the Shoei & Arai
Iridium visors and love them.
As a matter of fact these are the only visors i used for years , yes they are pricey and need special attention while cleaning but to me worth evrey cent

They help reduce glare more than a standard clear visor

I've had an iridium before on my arai..Didn't notice any difference in clarity..One thing I did notice though was that at certain angles or when the sun hits it a certain way it acted like a mirror, so basically I was looking at myself while trying to ride..I definitely didn't like that..Also I rode in the rain one night and I got home and all of the iridium crap washed away..< that might have been because I may have cleaned it with something I shouldn't have..

Hmm...so overall it's sounding like it's not worth the extra money over the regular clear visor. I guess I'll hold off for now, thanks for the input everyone

I can't tell the difference (in vision) between my iridium and my dark smoke visor for my arai. So, i guess it's only worth it if u think it looks that much better. Oh, and yes it does scratch easily.

for me the decreasing the glare of the sun ( sensitive eyes ) is worth the money
but to each his own

i just bought a spec-r1 goorberg (sp?) and an expensive ass suomy iridium shield..

ive been way too busy to ride and test out the helmet, right now im just staring at it and writing massive papers.

my question is other than looking bad ass what are the advantages of an iridium sheild?
is it just some overpriced tinted shield?
also how do i take care of this thing?

Advantages are
1. decreasing sun light glare
2. Not as dark as a dark smoke visor
so vision is not impaired
3. If cleaned correctley ( soap + water )
No Windex it should outlast the regular tinted visors
A great way to preserve your helmet in general is to
always store it in the helmet bag when not in use

I had an iridium visor on my spec 1R and it scratched too easily and had to be replaced after about two months. I've had a dark smoked shield on it since then and its held up w/no scratches.
