This might seem like a dumb question but why is the RR so competitive in the FX class and not in the SS class? Does Honda not have a factory team in the SS class?

because its a great bike.
it has so much potential, its easy to tune for big power. Thats what Ronald Ten Kate said, and thats why almost the whole BSS line up is RRs.
People say the bike is boring because it does nothing bad, and nothing great, and that makes for a better racer since you dont have to be compensating for shortcomings, it just does what its supposed to.
Hers what they said in Fast Bikes 06/06 magazine...

Argueable the greatest production racers of the last decade, the CBR 600RR has whitewashed almost every supersport series around the world. It has won every british rider and manufacturer title since its launch in 2003, and its leading both so far this year. It aslo cleaned up in americas highly tuned formula extreme series.
More significant is the number of CBRs in the top ten everywhere, and the fact that the most winning was done by privately run teams rather than mega bucks factory outfits. Ronald Ten Kate boss of the team that won WSS for the last four years stright explains why this is..."The cbr600RR is the bike that carries a lot of potential, people know it, and thats why they want to race it. The well balanced package is the secret of the CBR600RR's success".
