Im having issues with my front brakes lightly dragging when im pushing my bike. i can hear the brake pads drag on the rotor when im pushing the bike in the garage, and sometimes when i let off the brakes after a hard stop and coast i can hear it again.

when i replaced my front tire i had the wheel off and the pads looked good, and i spun the wheel freely before tightening everything down in the correct order ( i cant remember if the calipers were bolted down or if i did that after).

either way has anyone experienced this before, also i notice it sounds like the drag is worse in some spots than others, if my rotors are warped what caused it, and how do i replace them without spending a lot of money?

Thats completely normal. They are always floating or slightly dragging on the rotors. The less gap there is, the less you have to pull the brake lever. Excessive dragging is not that good though. How many times can the wheel rotate when its off the ground?

And about it being louder in some spots when rotating, it could be slightly warped, or not torqued down equally. If you can;t notice it in highspeed or low speed braking, I would not worry about it.

i got quite a few turns...maybe like 4 untorqued, and then like 1.5 torqued. I might put my bike back up and retorque the front as per specs again just for piece of mind. also as you asked... the brake dragging is very light, and my hard and soft braking is very normal, doesn't pull or shake.

i work on cars a lot and have a habit of noticing very slight noises so its just one of those things, i just wanted to make sure it wasn't going to be an issue.

Yeah like I said, the brake drag is fine.

+1. I had a cbr F3 a couple years back. When I bought it one of the rotors was warped badly. You could physically see the caliper opening and closing as the wheel spun because of how bad the rotor was warped. This is NOT okay . Im not exactly sure (I have to think about it), if this could happen (seeing the caliper move) with the radially mounted calipers that you have on your 06. But on the F3, this wasnt just a rubbing. it was more of a scrape that was causing the brakes to drag for half of every wheel rotation. So as long as ur rotor isnt warped, I wouldnt worry about it, they should rub a bit.

Ya Shift knows his stuff - warped front rotor = wrist pain on hard braking and severe head shake (sometimes) you'd know if one was warped.... the rest is normal

Glad I used the search function on this one...ha.

I have the identical issue as the OP. Slight dragging sound of the front pads on the rotor. I only notice the sound when pushing it around with the engine off and it was making a bit nervous thinking about wearing on the pads or a warped rotor.

There is no braking issues at speed at all which is reassuring and no sound while riding. Thanks for the info everyone!

Hooray for searching! I just re-installed the front wheel on my '06 600, and it seems like there is an excessive amount of drag. I get about 1 and 3/4 rotations when I spin the wheel, but I have to spin it pretty damn hard. Is this within spec? PLZ HALP! I'm gonna be late for work lol!

Have the same issue. It also worried me at first until I searched it on here and found out that it is normal. As long as it is not excessive and the bike doesn't shake when applying pressure on the brake.

What if it is dragging bad? Like not even 1/4 of a turn when I try to spin it...?

I just installed a new front tire, torqued everything properly, and rode it around a bit to make sure the brakes worked fine. It wasn't dragging like this before...

This seems like the thread to find via search and bump if you have a front wheel spin problem. And the OP sounds like what Im seeing.

I'm rather new to self maintenance and dont know the normal number of front tire revolutions one should see with a bike on a front stand. 1.5-2?

Then if you don't meet that, check:
-The tire is on right
-Warped rotor
-Brake pads aren't sitting on the rotor
-Take it apart, re-assemble and re-torque
-Anything else?

For reference: 2009 600RR, 2k miles, one previous owner who laid it down once (so I was told, I think once each side)

1. If the rotor is glowing red hot when you come back from a ride, it's dragging too much :)

2. If you pull the brakes on for a long, slow stop and you feel the lever "pulsing" then you have a badly warped rotor.

3. Drag is normal as with floating rotors the pads are just touching the rotor a little bit but you should be able to spin the wheel freely about 1 full spin before the drag stops it.

4. Make sure you have the brake lines bled properly and not overfilling the fluid reservoir as when the brake fluid heats up, it expands and needs room in the reservoir to expand into. Too much (too full) fluid will prevent it from expanding and put pressure on the pads to engage the rotors.

5. When putting in new pads, make sure to push the brake pistons in as full as you can (usually with a big, flat screw driver, flat side down) to give room for the new pads to fit. After pumping them on the rotor, they should self align.

6. Be sure to torque the axle bolt to specifications! over tightening can cause lots of various issues (compressed bushings, fork stiction, brake misalignment, etc.).

Good luck and don't f-ck with your brakes if you're not sure what to do as they can come back to bite you really bad!!!

Def could be. You should try dismounting/ remounting your front wheel. If its not done right, the rotor will drag causing what you're describing.

Could be something else but this is the most likely.

I'm going to bleed the brakes when I do my new lines and brake rotors. It did it after I took my front tire off and put it back on. I might lube up that bolt that allows the brake pads to slide away from the rotor that goes through the center of the caliper kinda

One simple thing to check is your levers. I bought a used bike with aftermarket levers which were actually pushing slightly on the master cylinder so the brakes were always slightly engaged.
